Embassy called for fingerprints...

We are going through Cairo Egypt. I received an email from the Embassy a few days ago stating that my fiance's (K1) security checks were completed and that they (direct quote) "assure you the visa will be issued soon." Today my fiance received a call from the Embassy requesting $85.00 and his fingerprints. They said Washington was requesting this to complete. He asked what the status of his visa was and they said they can't comment until after they receive his fingerprints.

Well, now I'm confused. Does this indicate a late problem? They had assured me they were finished. Can anyone shed some light on this and how much time this is tacking onto our timeline before issuance? Any facts or experience anyone can share would be greatly appreciated before I come unravelled.

Not sure if I can help but I have a question? If your fiance already had his interview-didn't they already take his prints???????

My man was told before his interview, that he needed to pay 85 euro & give prints(we know this was because he was denied entry into the US last year). He had to be cleared in Washington-we were VERY lucky, his prints came back clear in about 2 weeks. Some people wait a lot longer. I am sure someone else will be able to help you.

exact same thing happened to us. but took more like 4 weeks for the fingerprints to clear.

exact same thing happened to us. but took more like 4 weeks for the fingerprints to clear.

my husband was told also that his visa had been approved and to pick them up on a sunday...when he got there he was told that he needed to pay 85.00 for additional fingerprints before the visa was granted..for security clearance....that was on 062706 i was told yesterday that finger prints were cleared on 072406 and that we were still having to wait for washington to finish security clearance?.....hopefully all will be over soon ...haven't seen my husband since 061004.

To save me retyping I have copied this from another thread as it also relates in this instance.

Name/Security checks are a normal process with NVC/consulates but the wait time at NVC is generally not too long as cases can and will be forwarded to the consulate prior to the name/security checks being cleared. Administrative processing usually refers to a legally mandated security check the Department of State (NVC) must do for all applicants/beneficiaries over the age of 16. The length of time one can be held up in administrative processing will vary as some countries are subject to closer scrutiny. The process normally takes four to six weeks but as I said it can be much longer. Fingerprints are sometimes required at consulate level but this is all a part of the initial administrative processing that began at NVC. Once an interview is held a visa will not be issued until/unless clearance has been received. In most cases (again dependent of country), administrative processing will be completed and clearance granted well before an interview is even held.
