Hey..

my husband and I have hired an attorney due to personal reasons.

I now am wondering who else on VJ is using an attorney/has used an attorney and what your experiences where?

Did it speed up the process/delay the process/not change anything...?

Hey,

We are using an attorney. The use of an attorney WILL NOT make the process faster, but it will definitely ensure that there are no mistakes in your petition (if your attorney knows what they are doing) yes.gif I chose our attorney specifically to help my fiancee prepare for her interview; interview questions, document preparation, etc., as her English is good, but not VERY good. My attorney's partner speaks fluent Russian and his wife came here on a K1 Visa more than 5 years ago and she prepares all of the Russian clients for their interview in Moscow or Kiev, depending on their country of residence. My attorney has never had a Visa denial from Russia or Ukraine. Every time I have phoned him with a question about anything, he has responded quickly. Many people will tell you not to bother obtaining an attorney, but I feel it is better safe, than sorry. Yes, I have to pay more money to use an attorney, but it is a small price to pay for peace of mind. We are also using our attorney for the AOS process after we are married. Good Luck!

I wish we'd never hired one...ours ran off into the sunset with our $2600 leaving us with a nightmare of paperwork to sort out, as well as letters and affidavits to send to the NVC as to why we no longer had attorneys and why we had to continue with the paperwork ourselves..

I hope yours is a good, honest and caring attorney.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

We got one because we were afraid we were facing a misrepresentation charge. However, when we realized we were not, and we realized how easily we could do this ourselves, we got rid of the lawyer and found VJ!

To hire a lawyer is a personal decision, but don't expect magic from them. In fact, may times they delay the cases

Good luck.

Care to elaborate just a little? Personal reasons vs Complicated case reasons makes a big diff.

The other posters are right. Atty's charge a lot, and slow up your visa process.

If you have extenuating case factors that need an expert Atty's input, then that is a legitimate reason to hire a big gun. Otherwise, you are throwing money out the window.
