Go to thereligionofpeace.com and read *" The List " of Islamic Terror Attacks For the Past 5 Months* and then find me a list of ANY OTHER religion and/or culture that comes close to that.

Same argument yet again. No one can find you such a list because you're probably correct that no other religion or culture has had the same track record in recent history. But the conclusion you draw from this is not the same as what some others draw. For you, it means Islam is evil, for others it may mean that some people who claim to practice Islam are evil, but not the religion itself. You (and others) can keep bringing this up, but it doesn't prove any point.

Unfortunately religion is judged by those who make it up and there ARE a lot of bad people who call themselves Muslim. We rarely hear about the good Muslim people- instead we hear about the terrorists who have twisted Islam into something it is not meant to be. Islam is an extremely peaceful religion however there are always those who interpret it differently and who have made it violent.

I think of Islam as however one wants to interpret it. I think that the Quran was written in a time where many of what is stated in it is applicable to those times. What we can do now is apply as much of it now to present day the best that we can minus the flogging and stoning. It is a religion of peace...if one wants it to be. we just have some weird people representing us and making us look bad. I was in both Afghanistan and Pakistan and I didn't see any stoning going on. I think it only happens in the rural villages where they have nothing better to do.

Religion breeds hate, and I want no part in it.

I beg to differ here... RELIGION is not what breeds hate... it is the person's interpretation of ANY religion and the actions that lead to hate and terror...

Exactly. I do actually believe if you take a look at the paper any given day in any society and judge a society by that which is reported, then you can reach similar conclusions about any society or religion. For example, if you came to believe that the US is a Christian country - as suggested by many Christians in the US - and then looked at what's going on and made a list, you could probably come to the conclusion that Christianity is everything but a religion of peace.

Btw, thereligionofpeace.com is a hate-website which aims at disseminating information out of context in order to further hate of a particular group. Which makes it not very credible or about as credible as another often-cited website, namely http://www.godhatesfags.com/main/index.html (I'm not endorsing the content of this website but rather using it as an example for a hate-website).

Well to me religion and interpretation are one and the same. Whether it be today's interpretations of things in the past, or the interpretations of those in the past of things before that and so on - its all just one big game of chinese whispers. Religion is a product of the human mind, and yes those religious beliefs breed hate.

Again, Fisch, no-one is saying that Christianity is perfect; only that Islam is a dangerous,

militant, intolerant, incendiary religion.

 I give up with some of these people though. If you really think it's a peaceful religion, you're missing a marble or two. Or you just REALLY don't want to face reality.

It IS a peaceful religion- it's principles are very peaceful... it's goal is peace.

Now the other side is that Islam has been twisted and taken out of context and has a bad reputation due to those who have abused it's original goals. There is evil in everything... in this case the extreme Islamists are a very bad and violent group.

I am not Muslim nor am I religious at all but I have been to a Muslim country where the peaceful aspect of Islam reigns so I can tell you that depending on how one wants to interpret the Quran makes a big difference as we all know.

Actually, I agree - its goal IS peace....once they've killed and/or converted the non-believers to islam so that the world is one big islamic state.

The point is you can only reach that determination by ignoring the specific historical social, cultural, economic and educational disparities of people living in those countries. Its not about the religion itself - any more than the Old Testament is representative of christian philosophy (although it is clearly representative of 'some' christians)
