To any Ozzies.........Are the police certificates from NSW all sent to the embassy. Im the sole VJ CR-1'er from Oz and sometimes I get a lil lost  lol .......I can still get my police certificate done before the petition hits the embassy though right....or do I have to wait to get the packet??? I have downloaded the forms and filled them out already, ready to make an appointment in the next week or so for fingerprints so can get it over and done with. Any light on this would be appreciated.

lorelle,

when i had my police check done in NSW last year they sent me the certificate.

i think (not 100% certain) that as long as the certificate is less than 12 months old you should be ok.

i just found this in the FAQ section - it pertains to K-1 but i think it's relevant for you.

"4.3.2)...Can the fiance(e) start gathering documents and information right away to "speed things along?"

A..You don't have to wait for the packet to arrive to begin gathering the birth certificate, divorce or death decrees, photographs, military records, and medical information from your doctor about which immunizations you have had. You might not be able to request the police clearance without the actual checklist from the Consulate as "proof" that you need it. You can download the various forms and use them for "practice". Refer questions to the forums, as there is a LOT of specific information that can save you weeks of time, depending on what country you are filing from. The fiance(e) also needs a passport, valid for at least 6 months from the time the visa is issued."

i would be inclined to try and get it done.

hope this helps.

You shouldn't have any issues getting the police cert. done ahead of time. Same with the medical. If you already have a case number, that helps with the medical. Which packet are you waiting for? I guess the original one...but you already got the forms online.

I love my job.

Thanks Matt, I guess will just make the appointment, take along my completed downloaded forms and see if they accept them. If not I will just have to wait for the info from the embassy once my case gets there.

Sean, to tell you the truth I havent even looked at what the packet is called hahahaha I only know that it will contain info on my police certificate, medical etc as will of already submitted the immigration application and I-864 at NVC. I guess I better go read more about mine instead of only anwering everybody elses questions  hahahaha

Hey I posted in here too instead of the Foreign Embassy forum cause figured it wouldnt end up on page 2 in about 30 secs without a response lol ;)

Thanks guys

When I first went to get my police certificate at my local police station, the policewoman told me:

1) I had to get my immigration application started first and then they'd send it to the embassy for me.

2) That particular local police station didn't do the fingerprint stuff and I had to go on Sunday morning to a larger one.

So I waited til I get my immigration app started and went on a Sunday morning, and they did it on the spot no questions asked and in about 2 weeks they sent me the certificate directly. *shrug*!

They don't accept credit card I seem to recall, I was lucky my mum and I scraped together JUST enough cash on us to pay the fee. We walked out with less than $2 on us.

Sept 2005 engaged in USA, Dec 2005 married in Australia ;)

Apr 2006 completed DCF in Sydney, May 2006 emigrated to USA, Aug 2006 started new job

Jul 2007 finally had wedding, Dec 2007 moved into our first house

Jun 2008 our son is born, now just waiting for I-751...
