We are actually planning to split time between two countries. My issues are in not being able to blend in. With the current instability in the country foreign are a higher target for kidnapping. A lot would depend on where in the country you were thinking. Most American females would not thrive in the heavily Muslim areas unless you are accustomed to living like that. Things are very different there. Only you can say if you can deal with those differences.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I have never been to either country you mentioned, but I have heard great things from others about Botswana. Apparently they have a pretty stable economy and government. Your potential move sounds exciting. Good luck!!

I lived in Petal, MS. I would not want to live in Brooklyn, NY

Now that is a blanket statement if ever there was any.....

If i were to make such a statement i would love to add some reasons to help other readers understand me better

Folks have different personalities that allow them to thrive in various places but then again Nigeria is a nation with over 140million residents. There are lots of places in Nigeria where folks are living quite well but hey Mali is a beautiful country...I have friends in U.S who found Lagos thrilling and are looking forward to their next visit. Meanwhile Abuja with all its splendour did not strike a chord with my friends.

You think my friends are New Yorkers?............damn skippy! Would they want to live in Petal, MS? I doubt it!

Blanket statements never ever do justice to a place or country. That`s the morale of this response.

The thing is in both NYC and Mississippi you have the same expectations. Water, electricity, a stable government and a more or less crime free community and medical coverage is available. That isn't the case in some places. The last presidential election was historic in the fact control passed from one party to another WITHOUT a coup. You can go without electricity for weeks and it is considered normal. Crime is the norm there and travel budgets have to include money for police shakedowns in route. It is a beautiful country with a lot of potential but there are things that need fixing before it would be a primary residence.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Wow, S. I couldn't have said it better myself. One CAN live quite nicely in Lagos (i.e. Lekki, Victoria Island) if one has money.

But the gov't is still a problem, police bribes - still a problem, electricity - still a problem....nice to visit - wouldn't want to live there.
