Tax Scam Uncle Sam? You Oughta Be Fired! Says Utah Rep. Chaffetz

Working for Uncle Sam comes with some great perks, like job stability, posh benefits packages, and in many cases, average salaries that are higher than what the same job pays in the private sector.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz from Utah opts to sleep on a cot in his D.C. office.

That's why Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, is irked that nearly 100,000 civilian federal employees owe the IRS $962 million in back taxes. He thinks they should pay up or be fired.

Maybe they should fire Geithner, Rangel, and all the other tax cheats on The Hill also.

Federal employees paying 'federal' taxes is kind of odd when you really think about it.

They are sort of paying their own salaries, but not really... it's like a big rotation of money that keeps going around in a circle...

Just another sign that the bureaucracy in this country is strangling.

But I'm a little confused how these federal employees got behind, anyways. For most people with a regular salary or wages, it's impossible to get behind because you get a refund when you file. If they don't file, they could get in trouble for that, but they wouldn't owe back taxes because they should have gotten a refund. Do federal employees not have withholding?

I felt the same when I worked in grocery retail. It's funny how commerce works like that.
