Can I work once I get in with my CR-1 Visa

Hi people, we have a question for all of our VJ´s that went thru the experience of getting the CR-1 visa, Once you go thru the POE, and they stamp your passport, are you allowed to work right away, or do you have to wait for your greencard and SSN. The reason I asked is because my wife went to the USCIS local Office in NYC on a Infopass, she tried to find out more about our petition, and found out as additional information that I have to wait for the original greencard in order to start working.

We will appreciate any comments or suggestions from you guys, based on your experiences, we know that every case is different. Thank you, and God bless you all   :D :D

See ya

The info given at infopass is wrong.

Once you come across the POE, you'll get a stamp in the passport that validates the VISA as a temporary green card (I-551 stamp).

Suggest you get a I-9 form off the US gov website, download it, read it, study the documents requirement for working.

IMO, all else you need, is a SSN, and you can apply for that at a local SSA office, once you are in the USA.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Exactly. As far as Immigration goes the I-551 stamp is all she needs to get a job & re-enter the US if she needs to leave, and it is valid for 1 year. All she would need to get is her SSN and that's that. But a physical permanent resident card is not needed to get a job.
