US Citizen with Peruvian Wife - Want to Immigrate to US

So I'm finally getting a bigger picture but there are still some pieces that get me confused.

I am a U.S citizen and got married with my wife Jan.29th in Lima, Peru. We where going to have a baby but my wife has a miscarriage at 4 months. Our plans have all changed. We first intended on living in Peru but now we are considering going to the US for some change.

I've been living in Peru since 2003 and only went back to the US 2 times, the first time for a year and the second time for 3 months. My wife had applied for a visa before when I left to the US for 3 months but got denied.

Now I we want to go to the US but what are the steps to take in Lima, Peru? I heard something about Direct Consular Filing, is this possible in Peru? Can anyone give me an estimate of the costs of all the paper work?

Thanks for all the guidance and help :)

Click on the word "Guides" at the top of any page here and then select the one for couples both living abroad. That's the one for Direct Consular Filing. The Embassy/Consulate's website will also guide you as to specific steps for filing with them. Expect to spend about a thousand dollars for fees and medical exam.

thanks for the tip pushbrk, if anyone has any info on experience with this in Peru please share :) Thanks.

The Lima Embassy's website "Immigrant Visa" page will help you with that.

A general estimate of costs associated with different visa types. Medical exam costs vary by country.

Along with the DCF Guide here on VJ, do some reading in the Latin America regional forum to get consulate specific feedback.

I haven't decided yet when I'll update my own version of your attachment to reflect the increased non-immigrant visa fee. What's your plan? I suspect everybody who hasn't filed yet will be paying $350 instead of $131 but I'm reluctant to indicate that until it takes effect.

Vic ~ My fiancee and I filed for a K-1 Visa at the Lima, Peru embassy. Although the process is very different from DCF, a lot of the documentation you will need is the same. They are going to send you or give you a packet with paperwork and your wife is going to need to do A LOT of running around in Lima to get documents, etc. When you receive the packet with the information, contact me through PM or email and I will give you the addresses of all the places you have to go to, how far to go in advance & how much it will cost. Also, she will need a medical exam and I can recommend one of their doctors who will NOT overcharge, Dr. Nora Lari (as this has been a problem with others filing in Peru).

Buena suerte!

Suzy

I was thinking the same thing, to wait until it's official.
