Hey Guys

Currently in NYC till tomorrow....looking for a place for Sept some may remember my last post about moving to NY due to my fiances job transfer in the fall. We been here since Saturday we looked at a lot of places some we liked some we didnt My step aunt who lives here in Cobble Hill helped us out, were going to be taking over my aunts sister in law and her families townhouse there relocating to another state, rather than having to put it up for sale which they've only had a few oeffers were going to buy it ourselves it is significally cheaper than most prices around here which is surprisngly very expensive. Its a nice famuly friendly neughbourhood and good connections with the subway into Manhatten. Its a relief knowing we got something so quick. We are going to meet with a mortgage specialist today. There moving in August so will have the place ready for when we do in Sept.

Congratulations! I can't even imagine the prices in NYC. :o I had enough of a shock with the difference between Niagara and NJ.

My husband and I just bought our very first house together( first house ever too) in Nebraska - we were so surprised at the prices and the variance of prices in different areas...

30 mins from where we live our house is 100k more than it is here. It has a poor school area and is farther from the city and his work place.

We Bought his friends house - our school district is one of the top ranked in the state, our house is rated " large log exceptional " out of all the houses in our housing area AND we payed 100k less..

Congrats on finding something Amanda!

I've found the same thing here inky! We bought a house about 70 miles south of the Denver metro area and home prices here are so much more affordable. I noticed when we were house hunting that the further north you get- more like the closer to Denver you get- house prices jump astronomically. In the area we were living before, our house would have been at least 50k more, if not closer to 100k.

congrats Amanda, you must be thrilled!

the prices freak me out in chicago even if you look at the north burbs and the amount of yearly taxes are ridiculous! So after we stay with his parents for a year, we are looking at maybe moving north west near the rockford area. That is where his parents live now in a little town ...called....wait for it.....

Loves Park! lol i'm serious!! Its really called that!!! And it's a rather nice area. prices are more manageable, and there are 2 x 3 acre dog parks for our puppers. And it's not a major city. i saw cardinals for the first time ever there..it was so neat!

Thats a nice area, I live about 45 min southeast of there. As long as you're looking in Loves Park (it is a great name, they even have hearts on the water tower, lol) you should take a look at Belvidere, pretty much right next door to Loves Park. Even Huntley is an up and coming burb, its along I-90 but about a half hour closer to Chicago from the Rockford area. But you're right, the prices are pretty high in the Chicago area, so you really have to do some hunting to find a good balance between taxes and schools, etc. But I grew up in the burbs and we'll probably stay there, can't imagine living anywhere else! Hope you like it!
