Hi,

I'm married to a Us Citizen who lives with us here in Canada. Me and my soon to become 21 years old daughter were petitioned by my husband while my husband is in Canada and we got an interview in January 2010 but we postponed it after realizing that my daughter is not ready to immigrate in 6 months ( if given a Visa) because she is graduating in college this school year. Also we realized that my husband needs to reestablish ties with USA ( domicile) as a requirement in the application.

This is what we did:

- we already finished medical exam

- however, we postponed the interview and wrote US Embassy in Montreal via email ( as the only means of communications accepted) and they acknowledged that by replying to us and to inform them when we are ready to set an interview.

- I sent them a new email in Feb 21, 2010 that we are now ready for an interview and if they can book us a specified date as my daughter will be turning 21 years old in June 2, 2010.

- I received an automated response via email that they received my email and that they will get back to me in 2 weeks. I was worried its passed 2 weeks and close to 1 month already and I have received any response from them through email or postal mail when is the re-scheduled interview?

Questions:

1. Does anybody know the time line in rescheduling interviews in Montreal?

2. Are they going to respond to me via email or post office mail to inform me of my rescheduled interview?

3. As an initiative to establish US domicile , we sold our house in Canada, and my husband is moving back to the US this end of March 2010, get a job and get settled first.

4. We moved to a rented place and I have a mail redirection from an old address to a PO Box. I did not use the rented place address since this is just temporary and while waiting for our visa approval.

How can I inform the embassy of our new address. Is there a form to fill-up?

Thanks for any input..Greatly appreciated.

I too had to reschedule my interview in Montreal, and they told me it would be about 5months. So the fact you haven't heard from them is no surprise. I was told by DOS agent as well as through email from Montreal consulate that I would get the new appointment letter via email (same way I got the last one), but not to expect anything for about 4-5months. I was told this yesterday from the DOS agent, and got an email from MTL about 2.5weeks from the date I sent the first one saying I needed to cancel the interview.

Im not sure your questions on domicile.

Domicile is that you have to prove that even you are keeping ties with the US. In that case my husband is moving back to Houston so that issue will be taken cared of.

My issue right is the interview. This is crucial as my daughter will be turning 21 years old in June and if we don't get an interview schedule before June 02, 2010 she has to start processing from scratch again and pay the another fees and stuff.

So, since I wrote to the embassy in Feb that we are now ready for the interview that time will be counted as one month already?

Is it really 5 month waiting to get rescheduled? Did you put the date when you want the interview to be conducted? In My case I tried and put a specific date if the can accommodate me if not whatever is available.

By the way thanks for all the replies .. this Visa Journey is AWESOME!!!

I asked to be rescheduled as soon as possible. This is when I was told the wait would be 5 months and I would be looking at an interview around Aug. Since you emailed them in Feb and they take a little while to actually process the emails, I would think you would be looking at around Aug also. You can call the DOS and although they cannot schedule you an appointment, they can look at your file and see any notes that may have been put in your file. This is how I found out that Montreal received my email to reschedule. It was three days after I talked to DOS agent that I received email from Montreal.

Is your email a generic automated response or manually typed by human to address your issue? Is there a human being answering phones in DOS in this number 514-398-9695 Press 6 Ext #3833 (between 2:00 & 4:30 eastern time).

I also can't find information how to change my address as we moved. Is it really important considering that we have paid for a mail redirection in Canada Post to be consistent with our address. This can extend from 6 months to 1 year.

I am not sure how to go about informing them or not..

I got the generated response email immediately after i emailed the consulate, 2.5 weeks later I received a typed email specific to my scenario. The DOS agent was a person, and they are able to open your file and see any notes written by the consulate, but they will not communicate anything to the consulate for you (unless maybe change of address i dont know if they would do something clerical), and are not able to schedule you an appointment.

Mtl is not answering phones. The DOS number i called is 2026631225 Press 1, then 0, then 0 to get a person faster than waiting through all the automated stuff.

Thanks and with what you suggested I called this number and the lady said that nothing had been noted about any interview on my file. That prompted me to send a first follow-up email to the embassy in Montreal to reschedule my interview. I hope they can reply to me with a date.

Will they send you can email about the next interview date or a letter in the mail?

Can someone with similar experiences before share their thoughts?

Greatly appreciated..Thanks.

Hi Amy 83,

Do you have any information on your interview reschedule date?

Since the first email on Feb 25, then a follow-up email on March 25, no live person got back to me.

I called DOS and no new notes were added on my file yet..so discouraging...

Tried to call Montreal number just for curiosity and the guy said 5-7 months interview schedule wait...

wow...

I got an email that said I was back in line waiting for interview. The email stated the wait was approx 5months. It has not even been 1 month yet, so not surprised that I didnt hear anything yet. Im hoping for a July/Aug interview.

Yes the guy in the answering machine said that wait time and this was not I expected.

This is so discouraging..I wish I should not have rescheduled...

When I first email them that I want to reschedule this is the automatically generated response in the email I got in January 6, 2010 and it is said 2-3 months, which syncs with my plans and time frame.

(copy and paste)

Q4: If I cancel my appointment when will I be rescheduled?

A: Rescheduled appointments generally occur 2 to 3 months from when we were notified of the appointment cancellation, due largely to our high volume of cases and workload. This may vary from case to case, due to visa number availability and the visa class being requested.

I believe this auto response had changed now..

Do you have the same auto response?
