I'd like to get in on this thread...

some questions of my own here.

I have Verizon, I have a blackberry plan so that's 30 a month plus my voice and texting additional. When my wife finally moves to NY, we'll need something thats either flat rate so she can call canada and not worry about charges. So we're debating getting landline with time warner cable. Internet, phone and tv through them, I was quoted about 110. before taxes. Or should we forgo the landline and I tack her onto my cell with family plan, again keeping in mind we want to be able to call Canada at no extra minute by minute charge.

So we're looking between both for cheapest price/best value. Any suggestions?

My cell is with Verizon and it's a plan that you can call Canada for no extra and roam and call from Canada with no extra charges. It's $70/month (unless you get a phone that requires a data plan like I did, then it's $80/month). You get 1000 minutes and free network calling I believe. It's only with Verizon I think.

To the OP-Sorry, I have no clue about Canadian cell phones ans SIM cards...But from what I've read from others, I assume that yes, you can use your Canadian cell phone here in the USA...

To mike777-Based on my experience here in NYS....

Go with Time Warner Cable instead!

Verizon sucks!

For example, Verizon charges $1 per minute (if not on the long distance plan) for calls to Canada....

Oh and if you are not on their long-distance plan, they will constantly keep on bugging you with phone calls, asking you to switch over to their long distance plan.

In my situation they also took 8 weeks to install my landline telephone....

And we had to bug them several times about this...Can't they even do that right?

Bad customer service, indeed!

Thank goodness I don't make too many phone calls to Canada anymore....

Lol..I told everyone to e-mail me instead......

Seriously, if it wasn't for my dial-up internet, I would get rid of my landline....

I hate verizon..(lol..along with the USCIS...)

Wish I could get something else instead...Sigh.....But I can't..... :crying:

Verizon (unless something has changed) doesn't offer GSM service or SIM cards. You could call (and should call) customer service and inquire.

Unless TWC has free calling to Canada, I strongly suggest you change to a different VOIP provider, who does - VONAGE.

Verizon might have 'free calls to Canada' - call customer service and inquire.
