Police Check and long form birth certificate questions

I've been trying to search, but when I open a topic, it just takes me to the main index of the forums. >.< So I will ask. I apologize. I tried to search over and over.

My first question is, my fiance lives in Westbank. He went to his local small RCMP office, and they gave him a form. On one side it says "Consent for a criminal record check for a sexual offense for which a pardon has been granted or issued" ... other side says "Consent for disclosure of criminal record information."

They told him he has to fill it out and take it to the RCMP in Kelowna. Is this the right form? They're saying a few days and $30 at the Kelowna RCMP. I find it odd he had to get the papers at the Westbank station to begin with but whatever...

Last, and I googled this but the results just confused me. Is there a website to order your long form birth certificate? I know nothing of how Canada works, and my fiance isn't really full of facts either. >.< How long does this take? I KNOW this has been answered, but again, I can't get the search to give me any results. Just the forum list. Also, like... do you get a long form when you're born? His folks are out of town for at least two more weeks and we can't reach them. So just curious if everyone has to specifically order this.

Thank you for any help.

The reverse side of the form 'Consent for Disclosure of Criminal Record Information" sounds like the right one to me. I went in person and filled out a form but it was so long ago I don't recall what it said. As long as the Criminal Record check is Canada wide it should be fine.

Birth certificates are handled by the individual provinces in Canada. Your fiance needs to go to the Provincial government site for the Province in which he was born. Most of them would have a listing of departments or the option to 'find vital statistics' like birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates and divorce decrees. The process and the time frame - and cost - varies from Province to Province. In most cases it is the Department of Vital Statistics or something like that. He should be able to manage it online without a problem.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

They wouldn't necessarily have a long form, many people just get a wallet size birth certificate, if I remember correctly you decide which one you want.

Thank you so much.

I found this as an example of what could be ordered: click for pdf Is that what a long form looks like?

From here.

It asks if he wants a new or a photocopy... I assume new?

This looks like it's going to be expensive, all said and done with the fees of everywhere.

I also had to order a long form birth certificate because it is required with the forms. I just ordered it online and they shipped it to my american address if he still lives in canada then he can get it shipped there as well. Here is the link to order it online https://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/ecos/ that is if he was born in BC which it sounds like he is. It takes 2-5 days to get it you but you can rush order it and it will be there within 24 hours.

Yes that looks like it has the information needed which is both parents names and birth places. I believe the difference between new and copy is if it is the first time getting that particular one (I think that is what the lady told me).

If he's from Alberta forget that last post. But that is exactly what mine looks like minus mine is a BC one.

Yes, that looks like what you want. The 'long' form includes the parents names whereas the 'short' form doesn't and the parents' names are required to be on the birth certificate that is issued. Go for the 'new' form - it sounds like a good investment and there will be times when he will need to show the 'original'. He can make photocopies of it for submission in applications and bring the 'original' with him to any interviews.

(I apologize for the multiple posts that are appearing from me - I will keep trying to remove them but I am having connectivity problems with my computer right now and every time the modem hiccoughs my post reposts!)

Thank you guys. I can't believe this is another $40. I also can't believe I was so stupid and didn't pay attention to the "long form" until now. Big failure for me! We are just now calling the NVC to see if they got our approved I129F... I hope we have a couple months before the interview. We had our NOA-2 for the K1 approved 3 months early, and did not have the expected time to save up. This is getting really tight. And most annoying is due to living in BC he can't get a credit card until next year at 19. I've tried to put him on mine, but just went in circles. Sorry, rant over.

Did ya work at the one in Nunavut?? The RCMP treated us well when i was there. We would bring in fresh produce for them! We would be at the hotel chilling and the locals would bring up art to sell to us at an inflated price--the RCMP would dicker for us,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Based on your timeline, it looks like you dont even have the packet 3 yet, so you are easily a couple months or more from an interview, you have plenty of time so dont panic :)

Try not to stress over $40, plenty of stuff in this process seems to cost way more than that, just keep rollin and you will do fine.

Which one in Nunavut? There are 25. :) But anyway, I've worked at 2 detachments here in Nunavut. I still work for the RCMP (when I'm not browsing VisaJourney ) but not in a detachment. Mmm fresh produce!!!
