Proof of Genuine Relationship

I recently visited India and met my fiancé (just one meeting). Though, we did spend two weeks together. When I came back, we filed the I-I29F; however, I am concerned about proving a genuine relationship. My question is, “should I go back to visit him again or go with him during the interview?” I won’t able to travel twice in a year. He is also five years younger than me. (26-21) Any advice will be appreciated. :)

Thanks much

Since you already submitted the I-129f are you just concerned about getting a request for information? For mine I just had a couple of photos of us together, plane boarding passes and credit card bills showing a hotel reservation I made and train tickets I bought when when I was there. As for going to the interview with him, first you have to make sure if you are allowed to go or not. Some(most?) don't allow anybody but the fiance to attend the interview.

I am just concerned for getting the visa denied for lack of bona fide relationship since I only met him once in Dec '09. The more I think about this, the more I get worry. :(

Try to have as much evidence as possible just in case you get an RFE from the USCIS before they approve the I-129F. It will also help for when your fiancé goes for his interview. Evidence can be things like copies of e-mails, chats, pictures, itineraries, etc.

And don't worry, many people meet only once for a short period of time and still get approved.

Depending on what Embassy your fiance's interview will be, they might not allow you to accopany him in the interview.

In my case, even though Mumbai Embassy doesn't allow anyone to attend the interview, I still wanted to be there with my wife at the time of interview, but I couldn't due work. My personal opinion is, if you can afford, try to plan a trip so you can be with your fiance at the interview. It is totally worth it. You can give him your Passport so he can show it to them as a proof that you are present. That's a great proof of bona fide relationship.

Let's see what other VJer's have to say.

Good luck

Doing the foregoing -- even if you are not allowed in the interview -- can mean the difference between visa issuance and a 221g or outright refusal.

Your case is similar to mine, after the first meeting with my fiance we decided to apply to I-129, he sent evidence as chats, emails, boarding passes and photos together. For the interview I was alone and only it took 5 minutes to listen “ Visa approved". Don’t worry about the age difference, it won't be a problem for your case.

If I were you... I would make a trip and plan on attending the interview... even though you might have to wait outside or in the waiting room... he can still take in your passport to show that you are there <they wont ask for it, he would have to offer it too them> I know in one case were they actually interviewed the petitioner... so... go... just my 2 cents

attending.. could mean the difference of being approved or denied... depends on how you like to gamble

It seems we are in the same boat. I met my fiance on a trip to Georgia end of September 2009. I returned to spend a week with him over the New Year holiday. He is also 5 years younger than me. As evidence, I submitted boarding passes for both trips, copies of the immigration stamps in my passport, phone log, some emails and photos of us together and photos with his parents. Hopefully this is enough. I guess we will wait and see. Good luck to you.

Which Indian Consulate are you going through? The Consulates in India are very different on how they do things.

With that said...I would absolutely advise that you travel there for the interview...I believe I'm the one that Melody was referring to when she talked about knowing someone who got interviewed when they accompanied their fiance to the interview. We are proof that me being there made a huge difference!

I wouldn't worry about getting USCIS to approve the pettition cos the only requirement is that you both should have met. You satisfy the requirement. On the other hand the interview at the consulate is very different. It would be a solid proof of relationship if you are present there. So plan accordingly. From previous post I do know that Chennai and Mumbai allows petitioners in the interview. Dont know what is the case with New delhi.

But are some consulates more strict than others? I think multiple visits actually help in certain countries, including India.

It will be in New Delhi. Did you guys have the interview at New Delhi Embassy?

I guess I will plan a trip around interview time and try to collect as many documents. Even though, I wish I can visit multiple times but it is nearly impossible to get a leave from work. ugh! Thank you all for your suggestions.

Mumbai does not allow it. New Delhi does so just check on their website.
