Does anyone have any legitimate suggestions on home-based job opportunities? I don't want to have to invest any money (there are a lot of scams out there that require an initial investment), but I'm also not looking to make tons of money (about $500 - $800 extra per month). Thanks!

Make sure you google the company name first, I had an email from such a company, just from posting my resume on Careerbuilder, I typed in the company's name to the search engine and there were loads of threads about how it was a scam. So I copied a few and sent them an email back!! They often want you to invest a large amount of money in their specialised equipment.

Hi there!

I've been looking for some work at home jobs myself, and while doing research on a company called Alpine Access, I watched some of the news clips they had about themselves in one of the local CBS News stations and learned about this website: http://www.workathomenoscams.com/work-from-home-companies/

They have a list of legitimate work at home companies in different categories (Alpine Access is listed as one of them, as well as TeleTech --- which is a company I am very familiar with because they have call center operations in he Philippines). I have an interview lined up with TeleTech tomorrow at 12:30 EST! :D (I also applied at Alpine Access and took their skills assessment; still waiting for them to get back to me).

So if you're looking for work-at-home opportunities in accounting & finance, customer service, administrative & clerical work, mystery shopping and writing/proofreading, am sure you will find something on workathomenoscams.com I will be visiting several sites this weekend. I REALLY have to find better work at home because we are about to have a baby and unless I land a great paying job we just can't afford a babysitter. Am doing some freelancing stuff with a lady from California, but I'm ready to do something more stable.

I've tried signing up for eLance, oDesk and GetAFreelancer.com...they're decent sites but projects go to the lowest bidder...so you'd either need to land a really high paying project or accumulate many small projects to reach the income you want.

I've also tried http://www.virtualassistants.com/ Just to be clear, there is a $14 fee for subscribing and what you get is access to their list of openings for virtual assistants and you can cancel your subscription anytime before the cut off date. I applied for several positions they listed and stumbled on what seemed like good leads but they didn't work out (one wanted me to do the interview in Orlando...which is like a 4 hour drive from here...and if I had passed the interview the training would also be in Orlando for 5 days --- which we couldn't do at the time because it meant spending money for gas + hotel stay; with the other prospect I got as far as a phone interview, but they didn't move me to the next phase).

Good luck with your search!

Does anyone have any legitimate suggestions on home-based job opportunities? I don't want to have to invest any money (there are a lot of scams out there that require an initial investment), but I'm also not looking to make tons of money (about $500 - $800 extra per month). Thanks!

Be smart, have a plan, and hang on to the people you love. - Chris Gardner

I know West Corp. and 1800Flowers. WorkingSolutions are legit at-home customer service. 1800Flowers usually hires during the seasonal holidays, the major holiday we just had, Valentines.

For something completely different...

If you are good with Photoshop/Illustrator you can design for Print on Demand websites. You can set up your own online store for free or pay a small fee a month (which can be deducted from any commission you make). You can set up a basic store at cafepress for free or a premium for $6.95 a month/$55(?) a year.

I've had a store set up on cafepress for a couple of years now and usually make a couple of hundreds a month. It takes a bit of time to set up but once you make a few sales - they snowball. Lots of social networking/marketing involved to drive customers to your store but hey... I just made about a grand over christmas which restored my faith in my design abilities and print on demand companies :)

Try cafepress.com or zazzle.com.

Good luck :)
