i don't think it's rude, but that doesn't mean it won't offend them. IMO I don't think u should send the e-mail. talking over the phone is a better way to go.

my advice is, aap apni in laws ki sharafat ki baat na kare.. apni sharafat par dhyaan de. yeh email kisi sharif admi ka email nahin hai. apne buzurgo ke saath baat karne ka yeh kya koi tarika hai?

ps. if you have such a low opinion of the wisdom of the people who post on this forum, why ask? you clearly know better, as your poor demonstration of manners shows.

My email would be more like:

Yesterday I was told there were a few misunderstanding stemming from my email so I am writing you to allay your fears.

Firstly, i was told that you were under the impression that I am only staying for just one day

I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion given these direct quotes from my email:

"I had a conversation with my manager today and he said its hard to guarantee anything except Wednesday(08/04), Thursday(08/05), Friday (08/06), Saturday (08/07) and Sunday (08/08)."

"He said the safest thing to do for me would be to fly out on either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning and arrive in UK earliest by Tuesday night or latest by Wednesday evening. This way I can have at least 5 days guaranteed at the very minimum"

Unfortunately I am unable to get more time off as I am already burning through favours with my managers to get this much time off. In a year there is typically only 2 weeks permitted off and at the current time of year, this is not a viable option right now. I would very much prefer spending more time in the UK, but hope to do that at a later time with XX (insert fiance's name). Let me assure you that I'm looking at staying for around 5 days, not 1.

I was also advised that you feel Friday is not a viable wedding day option. While I personally feel that Friday is the best option for my guests who are travelling internationally, I am open to other alternatives.

The quote from my email "I apologize sincerely but it seems like the safest thing to do is have the event scheduled on Friday." I hope indicates to you that i am not trying to be contrary but that it is the safest (and most viable) option for all concerned.

My thoughts behind not having it on a Saturday (as is your preference) is that in order for myself, and my guests to return to work on Monday (if I am scheduled to work on Monday, though I hope not) I will need to leave on Sunday afternoon, limiting my time with my new bride and also guests that have travelled the distance.

Whilst I understand the commute from downtown London to Luton is quite arduous, it is significantly easier that the flights taken by my international guests, whose interests I am also basing my "Friday" option on.

I hope I have successfully allayed your fears, however if not, please feel free to give me a call so we can discuss the nuances without the risk of further misunderstandings.

Kind regards"

How I'd tackle it:

Dear FIL,

There seems to be some confusion about our trip and some of the details that I'd like to clear up.

As a young employee at my company, I don't get long periods of paid time off, since there is no statutory holiday pay in the US. My boss has only been able to guarantee Wednesday 4th to Sunday 8th August inclusive, which means I will be working until x pm on Tuesday and most probably will be expected back at x am on Monday. I wish I could spend more time with you in the UK, but sadly this just isn't going to be feasible.

He suggested that I fly out late Tuesday night, which means arriving very early Wednesday morning or early Wednesday, arriving late the same evening, and since I have to work on Monday, I'll have to leave early Sunday in order to be back in time for work. Because of this, it would allow us to enjoy the day more if it were held on the Friday. We won't have to rush back to pack or worry about getting up at the crack of dawn on Sunday. However, I understand that this could mean a number of guests that would otherwise want to join us, couldn't, so Saturday is OK too. It was more a question of preference considering the time it takes us to travel. Those longhaul flights aren't much fun!

I hope this has cleared things up a little, and wondered if it might be easier to talk through the details on the phone? I could call at x if that works for you, or if not, let me know a couple of times that would better suit.

Hope everyone's well,

evilmonkey x

####### is wrong with you? You write to your future FIL this way? My MIL would hit me on the head with her big hammer and cut my throat with her sickle. My wife would ask me which ear I wanted her to put the bullet in!

If I weere the fiance, I would call it off.
