Congrats to everyone receiving their NOA2 today. let's hope and get a few mopre. would love to see that first April filer approved because that will tell us they are working on April now also.

It was crazy really. My wife has never been in the USA. we sent all evidence we could but I was asked to send in more information concerning owning property together, bank accounts etc... It was all information that can not be provided since she has never been here. I contacted an attorney and he told me to send them everything I had. Every email, every picture. Every chat session etc... He told me to send them a box if I could and that is what I did.

In the event they do not accept it the attorney told me to call him back.

But this is where I am right now.

You need to put your timeline and other info together so the rest of us at VJ can get some benefit from you being here. With regards to your Attorney. How did you select him/her and did you provide everything initial that they recommended to you? Personally I think they are a waste of money unless you have a special case .

My question will be how long does it take from the sending of the packet to the NVC to total approval?

I called NVC last night to get my number, and they told me it takes at least 6-8 weeks to get through NVC. Then you have to add on the time for the embassy to process and interview.

Yes but why would you? If you dont have a computer you can go to the library and use theirs. You can also get a USB cheap enough and save things you generate on there. Can you update your time line?

I'll be honest I didn't realize that it mattered till I skimmed across it on here a while ago. But a DOH on my part was I didn't update when I got my first NOA1 grrr. Sorry about that.

I feel dumb for asking this but I just want clarification. Do I send in my actual birth certificate. I have order a long form birth certified certificate and have our original Marriage Cert. My question is do you have to send in the actual originals or will photocopies suffice for the NVC packet? I realize it says 'originals' but I just want to double check as we all know it never hurts to be extra sure.

I had the same concerns as you, about my birth certificate. I am going to opt in for Electronic Processing and bring my originals to the interview.

MFJ will put more dough in your pocket since tax brackets are higher for each dollar taxed and exemptions/allowances are much higher than the rest.

As per IRS, if you are married by 31st Dec of that calendar year, you can file MFJ. The spouse need not be physically present in the U.S.

People will opt for MFS, if they wish to file separate and owe/refund money separately due to personal reasons and which is the worst in terms of financial benefits.

The electronic processing is only available in certain countries like China and I think Canada. Darnell could give you a better answer about it.

You can get ITIN later and amend your past return if you want.

When I did my taxes in 2007, I applied her ITIN along with the tax forms. It processed and accepted the return. We were married in Nov 2007 and she was here in Green Card & SSN in Jul 2008.
