Hey guys,

We got our NOA2 on 02/24/10, NVC received out approved K1 on 03/02/10 and they say it was sent to the consulate on 03/04/10 or 03/05/10. That being said, I tracked all packages going to Rio de Janeiro on March 3, 4, 5, and 8th where I can see that they all have been signed for and received.

I emailed the consulate last night to request an interview date. We have a 6 month old child, so for us, getting this moving is pretty urgent :)

The consulate replied today saying that they do not have a record of receiving this case. I guess that it can take a couple weeks to process and get into the system, but I hope that others (preferably from Brazil, but all are welcome) can share how long this took for them? Just hoping that this is not lost in the mail or something crazy.

Thanks guys,

Brad

I don't think the person who reads the emails actually checks on anything. Reply to the email you've already gotten and push them a little. Let them know that you've talked to the NVC and the NVC said it was sent and has been received by the interview. Bonus points if the USC emails.

I ended up on the phone with the NVC and Rio because the person who responded to our emails was lying to me - and I even have the proof in my hands (my original interview letter was dated 2 days before our email requesting our interview date).

Your packet 3/4 has probably been mailed to you both already.

Your best bet is getting your case number from NVC (which is different from your case number from the NOA) and then call the consulate in Rio (call not e-mail) and ask if your case is there. If it is go ahead and mail them the packet 3 documents (even if you haven't yet received the packet in the mail) and only then will they mail your interview date. After a week or so from sending packet 3 you can also try e-mailing to ask if your interview date is set.

Packet 3 documents are listed in the guides, and for further info regarding the requirements for Brasil, check the US Embassy in Brasil site and it should also be listed there.

Was pretty different experience to me. I would sometimes get my e-mails answered on the same day even. It took me two, and then the third had the interview date. This was in November though.

When I called NVC, they said the case traveled to Rio on November 19th, and gave me the RDJ number, which is the number your case will be known as in Rio. I got my e-mail answered with the date on December 2nd. I can't recall when I got the letter itself, but it was before the 10th, since this was the day I took the medical and I took the letter with the RDJ number on it, just in case.

Anyway, I'd say to politelly keep trying. I would send an e-mail every two days, exact same thing:

Bom Dia,

I am sorry it is in portuguese, but I once wrote the e-mail in english and they answered in portuguese, so I guess they prefer to comunicate this way since my e-mail adress is my last name, so by deduction they probably knew they were talking with the "brazilian person" of the process.

What is says:

Negative answer: We don't have it yet, please keep waiting to receive our correspondence or call NVC.

Positive: We have your process, interview date is XX/XX/XXXX. Notification has been sent, please wait.

We requested our interview via email as well, we got an answer at our second attempt.. Unfortunately phone calls do not provide evidence in the event of errors on their part. Follow Carolina+James email format and you will receive answer form them..

Best of Luck

Hey,

I got the exact same email noting that they have not received the case. My fiance is worried that I will anger them if I keep emailing :) Some form of cruel punishment.

I think I will email them again on Thrusday night to give it another try. I am dying to see my daughter, so every day counts!

On that note, do you think that requesting an interview via email will speed up the process?

Thanks guys, it is comforting to hear others experiences and know that my processo is not lost in the mail or something,

Brad

One more thing. How many days after they received your package from NVC did you email them?

It has been 5 business days since they signed for it...

Brad, I'd keep emailing them, requesting the date. If you're told they don't have it next time you email, the time after that, give them the tracking reference and delivery date and tell them that the NVC says they should, and ask to verify that it's arrived. That will probably get your interview date. Typically, at Rio, they've issued the interview date 7-10 calendar days after they receive it. Since it's been about 10 days, it's more a matter of coaxing it out of them.

L and I both got responses the same day or the next business day as our emails. I think they just respond with that stock email until it's been 2-3 weeks, even though it's in their system and the interview's scheduled, because I don't know why else they would tell us days after they'd assigned our interview that the petition hadn't been received!

I think I might complain while I'm at the consulate next month and suggest they change the email response based upon what's in the email and not send a junk email with no information.

Back in 2006 I was successful with the phone call. After I knew my case was there all the rest of our communication was through e-mail, including trying to find out my interview date, which they did e-mail both to me and my hubby (then fiance).
