One-Third of Doctors Could Leave Medicine if Health-Care Reform Passes, N. E. Journal of Medicine Says

I could have sworn some here told me that doctors take you in under 1 second flat.

I am not dissing the doctors though, as many do an outstanding job and save lives.

The biggest difference I noticed is that doctors clinics have lots and lots of staff on the premises. The other large expense for doctors is litigation insurance. The reason universal health care works in other countries is because you cannot sue a doctor for $5 million because a stitch broke.

The malpractice insurance is astronomical. Sometimes doctors order a lot of unnecessary tests just to cover their a$$es due to fear of malpractice suits.

This is one thing we'll agree on. The frivolous lawsuits over the course of the last 10-15 years have been astounding. Especially the ones against anesthesiologists. Some situations just aren't their fault. They can only look at the situation in front of them, see what's happening and make a judgment call on the information provided. At that point, it's not their fault if someone doesn't wake up from the drugs. There could have been some underlying thing there that no one ever knew about.

Of course, nothing is going to change along these lines so long as the trial lawyers have a huge lobby in Washington and one that easily wins the day. After all, most of the turds in Washington unfortunately are lawyers themselves....

Physician Survey: Health Reforms Potential Impact on Physician Supply and Quality of Medical Care

Mar. – Apr. 2010

Key Findings

• 3.6% of physicians prefer the “status quo” and feel that the U.S. health care system is best “as is.

That's a pretty poor showing for - as the blind would have it - the best health care system in the world, isn't it?

Interesting...

My Vietnamese friend is a surgeon, 32 years old. Now, she's going to school to become a lawyer. One of the reason why she said was that she wanted to change HMO policy. For her patient, when she give a referral to a specialist outside the hospital, the patient don't get any coverage or threaten to fire the doctor for making a referral outside. There are other issues in which she like changed according to many medical insurance companies as well.

What are they going to do, become lawyers?

Your source is the conservative news service? Come on Danno, at least try to come with something a bit less sensationally biased.

Danno should have run with Bill O'Reilly, he said:

Talking Points Memo & Top Story American doctors and Obama-care clear.gifclear.gif Could as many as half of the primary care doctors in America leave the medical profession if Obama-care passes? http://www.billoreilly.com/show?action=latestTVShow#1
