Hi Ya'll. I am an Alberta gardener, May - October. I have got to tell you this gardening twice a year is wonderful!!

My purplehull peas, squash, asparagus are growing so wonderful. I have been told that this time of the year "IS NOT FOR

carrots, rootabegas, carrots, those are fall plantings". lol. I tell my neighbors that we in Canada only have 3 or 4 months

for gardening - sooo I'll plant the fall seeds in spring and hope for the best. VOILA they are growing, but let's see if they

produce anything.

I've got my early seeds to start as soon as the ground is dry enough to turn over. Right now the garden area is sodden with all of the rain we've been having. It is cool to be enjoying tomatoes in June, though - and we can do two crops as well for some of the faster growing crops. Enjoy your garden - there is one other thing that you will have now that you didn't have in Canada - a lot more bugs to worry about - especially when the summer humidiity hits.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

We're lucky to plant all year around. But it means weeding, lawn mowing and watering all year round. We just replanted all the herbs again last weekend and new tomatoes. Stink bugs killed all the plants last time around.

I am also looking forward to enjoying a longer growing season when I move to Oklahoma. Last year during my May visit, I planted some morning glory and was amazed at how big it grew by end of summer, and all the seed pods it produced! I'd never seen anything like it in Canada, especially north of Lake Superior where I lived for 15 years. I swear there were only three months of the year there when trees actually had leaves on them! Brrr...glad I'm not living there anymore.

But yeah, I'm looking forward to experimenting with some different flowers and veggies, different soil, etc. Not too keen on dealing with groundhogs though, that apparently can uproot plants within minutes and leave mounds of dirt everywhere. Oh well, it'll be an adventure.

I've found a great website for gardening info where you can search regional forums to get answers to questions specific to gardening in your own particular area.
