Madame Cleo, you still haven't answered my question.

Booyah!, your college education obviously hasn't helped you crunch numbers. For the last time - YES! You are right! There are way more gun-related crimes in the US than elsewhere in the first world. I'm not, and have never, disputed that fact. What I have disputed, and what you have still failed to prove, is that there is an overall (read: averages must be applied here) reduction in homicides and crime after a gun ban. Not just gun-related crime, but ALL crime. Please prove me wrong. I'm still waiting.

For everyone else, please consider the fact that murder, assault, rape, kidnapping, drug trafficking, etc., is already illegal and people who shoot other people are already breaking numerous laws. If there are people out there who are willing to break these laws... what is your plan to stop them?

Widespread proliferation of firearms enables people to do these things, and on a fairly grand scale.

I don't object to the constitution, I just think people are extremely foolish to rely on owning guns as a means to protect civil liberties, which is exactly the position I have maintained in this thread. What a surprise.

i seem to recall that the russians had a little bit of a problem dealing with camel jockeys and enfields...then there were those east europeans with the molotov cocktails raining down on russian tanks...

So perhaps you should allow for some legislation so that 'people like me' can't get their hands on one? Or, do you advocate that 'people that are dangerous when they have a gun' should simply be allowed to run around with one anyway? All in the name of what? Civil liberties? Personal safety

no point in throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I think an elementary student can deduce from those stats that owning a gun does not result in lower homicides.

again you ignore the hispanic drug trafficking problem and the violence associated with it. you have no answer for it.

Natty, the fact that I am writing a complete sentence in English testifies to the fact that I do indeed understand English.

Now how about we take a look at what I wrote above and compare it to what you wrote below (this by the way, is another complete sentence).

This makes rather more sense than your previous posts in this thread, but like the other posts it is not a complete English sentence.

I guess the logical question to you is: Do you understand English? ;)

talk about a hard bite ...

I wonder what position is more rational, yours for suggesting that people who are 'dangerous' with guns, such as myself, should be allowed to have them even while you know that these are people who are dangerous when they handle guns because no restrictions are sensible or constitutional, and mine for saying that there should be restrictions on gun ownership so that as far as possible those who would be dangerous with guns should have restricted or no access to them and I would happily include myself in that number because I do not want to be a danger to others? Bearing in mind you are not talking about criminals - there was no suggestion in your comment that 'people like me' are criminal or even mentally unstable, merely that people like me, who are what was it;

seriously, it's people like her that are dangerous when they have a gun. no capacity for reasoning or ability to think beyond their own needs
.

I have to say, your reasoning seems to put you in the category of people who are dangerous when they have a gun.

What is left to prove? Pick any crime classification (per capita) and the United States will have a higher rate than most if not all other first world countries. What you also fail to acknowledge is that a person can recover from the majority of other crimes - basically has a chance. Whereas, once you are dead, you are dead period. If there was any logic in your argument or line of reasoning, surely more other first world countries would share this view. No? Before you go on about not caring, no one is asking you to care what others think, just accept the reality.

I tell ya, middle America has got their heads screwed on backwards. Rather than tackling your plight, you are obsessed with dumb ###### like guns. While Americans are murdered or victims of crime hourly, you cling on to idiotic baseless views. Laughably assume the rest of the first world - who can now buy and sell you guys like potatoes at a grocery store - are misguided and stupid.

or the problems with knives in china ...

one person with a knife killed how many??

thought people here on vj said this could never happen ...

BEIJING - A former doctor armed with a large knife killed eight children and injured five others Tuesday at an

elementary school in eastern China, a local official said.

The assailant was arrested after the 7:20 a.m. attack, Xinhua News Agency said.

He is a former community clinic doctor with a history of mental health problems, said a man surnamed Wu in the Nanping city government office, who would not give

his full name as is common among Chinese officials.

Eight children from Nanping City Experimental Elementary School were killed, and five were being treated at a hospital, Wu said. Six died at the scene.

The attacker, who is 41 or 42, had resigned from his post at the community clinic, Wu said, but he wasn't sure when. The school, located in Fujian province, was closed and students were sent home.

China has witnessed a series of school attacks over the past several years, which are often blamed on personal grudges or people with psychiatric problems, leading

to calls for improved security.

Wow! People can be killed with knives, who knew!?

Quick! Let's take the guns away from the military and replace them with knives and swords. At least the edged weapon doesn't jam, just think about how much more effective our troops would be charging the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. It will be like that movie '300', only real - with extra slow motion!
