Spend less time on VJ and you'll have plenty of time to learn to shoot.

If my boss allows me to leave my desk and go practice shooting, sure, why not? Until then, not got the time.

If you live in the tornado belt the risk of that eventuality is either realistically significant, in which case you are taking a reasonable precaution, or it's not, and you have bought into a similar type of fear mongering. The reality of my being saved from some harm because I carry a gun is infinitesimally small. Go figure why I can't be bothered with it.

one could say the same thing about living in a high crime area....

whether you carry or own a gun is your personal choice, just as my choice to own or carry is mine. live with it.

When and if I have time for a new hobby, I'll consider shooting. Until then, you are not doing me any favours by having guns in your home and I don't respect you because you have them, capiche?

i'm not asking you to, nor do i believe anyone else is. where did you get that crazy idea from?

No. Not really.

yes. really.

I do live with your choice, I don't have a choice but to do that even though I know that you, and people like you who exercise that choice because they are motivated by silly and unfounded fear actually decreases the overall safety of everyone in society. However, what I have consistently said through out this thread, is not that you do not currently have a choice, or even that I want to remove that choice, but that your supposed reason to exercise that choice is not a good reason to own a gun.

You are quite wrong. Because you refuse to allow for any regulation on gun ownership, idiots run around with guns willy nilly. If you would allow for some regulation, you would still be free to enjoy your hobby and society would be statistically and significantly safer, but because you have this messed up idea that somehow you and people like you owning guns guarantees civil liberties because of what is written in the constitution, and because your forebears beat off the English 200 years ago, and further that you need a gun to guarantee your personal safety that somehow that is relevant in modern society. What romantic nonsense

Yes, he does. He knows exactly how I spend my time while I am in work but so what?

So the things we prepare for....is it selective?

Normal people assess risk and act according to the likelihood of whatever the eventuality is of it taking place - apart from when it comes to putting things in our bodies, then a lot of people seem to think that the risks of say smoking, do not actually apply to them.

my refusal or dislike of regulation is insignificant - i'm not congress - they make the laws, not me. also note that we have plenty of laws on the books already about purchasing and owning a firearm. it seems to me that you want more laws and more laws, when in fact quite a bit of what goes on would be dramatically curtailed if there was enforcement of the ones we have.

i'm on record of being against reinstatement of convicted felons being given back their rights after serving their sentence for whatever crime they've committed.

so yes, i'm for "regulation on gun ownership" to an extent, just not as draconian as you'd like to be. and fortunately, we do have a choice in this country to own or not own. i know that must irk you late at night.

Oh, I don't think so, you are trying to suggest that I abuse my work time. Sorry to disappoint.

yet........here you are on vj......

How draconian would I like to be Charles? I'd be interested to know.

Yes, here I am on VJ and my boss is quite aware of that fact.

yes. really.

You want me to believe that your owning a gun is equivalent to storm roofing.

Why that and not a fallout shelter?

Why not a set of biohazard suits for you and your family?

Do you insulate yourself against all threats or just Cherry pick the ones that allow you to say that owning a gun for self-defense is not paranoia but "preparation"?
