  1. 1. Should I head over for a few days?

    • Yes, you really want to go
    • Yes, your daughter, your wife and her family would appreciate it
    • No, you can tough it out there are less than 10 weeks left

So, Nani and Naomi went to Addis for 3 months to visit with her family. Yeah, it's a long time but Nani doesn't get to go very often and her family does need the bonding time with Naomi and vice versa (my folks come here twice a year for a month at a time). Of course, someone has to bring home the bacon and so I can't really go anywhere for that long. I've been thinking about heading over for 10 days or so around the middle of their trip. It's on my mind ever more often as time goes on. Nani and Naomi left a little while ago and I really start missing them a lot.

I've got plenty of stuff going on here so I'm not really all that bored. Been working a lot lately, trying to secure a new position within my firm and I've got some projects in the house that I can only do when nobody else is here - flooring in one of the bathrooms (done), living room, dining room and kitchen (all still left to do). So, I'm kinda busy but I do miss them. A lot. I figure I can still get all my projects done even if I "lose" two weekends for the trip.

So, what do I do? Stay here and tough it out or get on a plane and jet over there for 10 days or so. I dread having to make the 25hr one-way trip twice in less than two weeks. But then, everyone would be really happy if I showed up in Addis for a little visit.

Funding the trip is not a consideration in this decision.

With that said, have at it. Let me know what you think...

Life is too short - all your projects will be there when you get back - go make an appearance Reinhard.

I'm leaning towards that point of view.

The only way I'd stay home was if I thought the absence would potentially impact the promotion.

No, there would not be any impact on the hiring decision for the position I am pursuing.

I think you should go. Everyone including yourself would really like it, you get some time away from your projects and work which would bring you back home rejuvinated and ready to finish the projects in time.

I say go. If you miss them they miss you and it'd be a pleasant surprise for every one. and yeah, like Otto und Karin sagt, all of your projects will be there when you get back. You'll also have time to work on them when you get back too. The two things that could make going a problem are the promotion and finances, and you've stated that they aren't a problem. Though, go a head and take this all with a grain of salt cause it's coming from some one you've never met. : )

I know. I'm sort of leaning towards going as it is. Just thought it would be fun to get some opinions from fellow VJ'ers.

I wanted to click option 1 and 2 - it sounds like you really would like to go in spite of the travel time as well as your wife and daughter would enjoy having you visit - as well as her family. Projects will always wait - they have a habit of doing that! - but this is something that can't really be done at another time. Enjoy yourself - go.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

2 days solid on a plane for 9 days in Addis. It's a rather unfortunate ratio to say the least. But that's really the only downside I can think of and the more I think about it, the less of an issue it seems to be.

share and enjoy your family time is worth it!!! Have a great time together!
