If you don't want it mailed to you, you may have to wait through the weekend until the next business day. I was able to get mine last September on the same day (I had my infant son with me and they were able to rush it through). I've heard of other people getting theirs the same day, but they don't guarantee it. Good luck.

Thanks a lot!!!! :)

Where I have heard K visas getting theirs the same day, I have never heard a CR-1 get their visa the same day in Montreal. Count on either giving them a prepaid Expresspost Envelope or staying until Monday or Tuesday...

Up to about MAy or June 2005 you used to get the visa the same day (even cr-1) but like others have mentioned, its either a prepaid express post envelope or you drive back (or wait) til Monday/Tuesday to pick it up! But thee have been a few cr-1ers that have gotten lucky and received it the same day!! Maybe shed a few tears, lol One could always have the envelope ready and ask to have it the same day, all they can do is say no!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi Mandy -- can you tell me when your case was completed at the NVC? i'm trying to get an idea of how long it might take for my interview to be scheduled... thanks, and good luck with the interview! :D

well my case is kinda different since my husband works for the military. so everything is much faster. i dont think we go thru NVC, everything is done in montreal, so i cant tell when my case completed in NVC sorry. here is what happened to us, at oct 13th 2005,the next day after we got married in city hall ottawa, we brought our I130 form and other documents to the US embassy in ottawa, and ppl there copied everything then sent it to montreal. two weeks later, i got a packet contains checklist, DS230 etc. i returned the checklist and DS 230 in mid nov. and last week i called them, they said my interview is scheduled in march 31 9 30,but i havent recieved the interview date letter yet, hopefully soon. so for the whole process, i dont think my case has ever been to NVC, my case number starts as mtl( which means montreal i guess)soi think montreal just directly deal with it.

Mandy, any chance your husband was working in Canada for the American Military at the time you filed?

My husband is a US army officer but we went through the regular process, however we got an expedite since he got deployed to the sandbox. Once our packet got to the NVC, it took less than two days to approve it. I never thought of just going up to the US Embassy in Canada and just processing it there.

No, my husband is not working in canada, he is just a soldier in US army and was stationed in korea. well, before we statrted, we were really confused so we thought we should go to US embassy to ask( fortunately, the US embassy is very close to where i live, just 15 mins drive). so he went there, and the ppl there were really helpful and told him that they would help him as much they can. also they told him since he is in the army, they have a way to make it much faster and gave him a copy of form I 130. Then we got married in city hall and next day we submitted the I 130, passport, birth certificate etc. the lady copied everything and had her officer ( i think) signed on the I 130 form and told us they were going to send all the stuff to montreal and i should hear something back soon. also they gave me a number to call montreal, told me that now if i have problems, i should contact them instead of ottawa. when i asked her how long it would take for the whole thing, she said when i got my DS230, checklist package, wait until dec to send it back and i should be able to get the visa in feb or march cause i cant move before april( i finish my college in april). so i got my checklist stuff 2 weeks later then i waited for a few weeks to send it back. but after that, i havent heard anything back, so i kept calling them every few weeks. and they always told me, u should expect an interview in march, anyways ur school finishes at april. so i guess they didnt really rush my case. until the last time i called, they told me the interview is in march 31. 9 30. but i havent received the letter yet, hopefully next week. anyways thats the whold thing. i think we may just get lucky and we met someone who really know how to do her work and is being responsible. thanks the lady works in US embassy of ottawa. she helped us a lot.

My husband is also military and we are going through the regular process. I'm finding it very long.

Brunette, when did you start the process? What's your timeline? Are you going through Montreal?

Jinxlar, we got married in May 2005 and started the paperwork in June. The California Service Centre finally approved us in September! Crazy. We only live a 2.5 hour drive away from each other, so the wait was not as bad. He got deployed in October, and it's probably a good thing that I am still up here in Canada working as now I have to pay off my car loan if I want to bring it down to the States. I have my interview on March 20th in Montreal.

Where did you start your application? I hope it goes fast for you!

Wow, Mandy, you got lucky!

Brunette, we got married July 2005 and started the paperwork in August 2005. We started it at the Vermont Service Centre. The NVC is now processing it. Sure hope it goes as fast for us as it did for you. Less that two days to approve it. How great is that!! :)

Mandy, good for you
