Hi all.

Which is the better option? I am going in late April to the Phillipines for the second time. I'm just wondering if we were to wed there...would the process be any quicker? There is a hundred dollar diff in form fees. Not that I'm trying to be cheap...just quicker. I'm only going to be there 9 days though. Is that enough time to do so, if we were to wed there?

Thank you,

Rich

When you say 'Quicker' you almost have to be more specific (as in, quicker to get to the US? or Quicker to be able to work, travel etc - once getting to the US?). In either case - to get to the US, there isn't that much difference (meaning, one isn't necessarily faster than the other in this regard - used to be, but not so much any more).

Cheaper? Well, in the long run, a CR-1 is less expensive than a Fiancé Visa when you calculate both the time and money a K-1 entrant has to spend once they get to the US.

The CR-1 will provide some benefits over the K-1. Cost no AOS and availability to work, shortly after entering the US.

As you are going to visit I personally recommend the CR-1 route (meaning get married while there) as she gets a greencard on entry. The processing time I understand is a bit slower but there is a significant financial saving, and also gives your fiance/wife a chance to get a job as soon as she arrives rather than waiting a minimum of 3 months for her EAD and/or GC.
