Educational Grants

Hello All,

I just wanted to know if a K1 Beneficiary can get a grant to study a vocational course while waiting to file AOS. Is this not a violation of the Affidavit of Support signed by the Petitioner? Just curious Thanks

I been looking at the same thing because my fiancee was thinking about finishing college. If you're talking about any US federal aid, then you'll have to wait till she's done with the AOS. That's one of their requirements, she must be adjusted status to permament resident to qualify.

Not really there are some county grants for vocational studies which might be welfare benefits and i was just wondering if a K1 beneficiary can receive such benefits without putting their petitioner in trouble since he/she signed the affidavit of support and i believe there is a section that says the beneficiary is not entitled to welfare packages or i'm i wrong?

according to your timeline, you already have a green card.

apply at the learning center you want to attend and find out.

if the person holds a green card as permanent resident -

then

apply for the fafsa

then go to 'that vocational center'

and find out. I say this, because the 'awarding of grants ', although guided by federal regs, is DONE at the school itself, at the financial aid office.

You really won't know, at all, until you are sitting across the desk from a financial aid officer.

and ya gots to file a FAFSA, first, before that happens (interview with financial aid officer).

I'd be leary of grants - as the 'income' is assesed on both husband and wife - so if BOTH of you are below a certain level, and SHE qualifies for grants - you need to be careful about the next round, on the ROC paperwork, ya?

The question was not for me, a friend's fiance arrived and she enrolled him at a program that was grant sponsored so i wanted to know if that is not a violation of rules of signing an affidavit of support. They are getting married this week. Thanks for your response though.
