A 14-year-old boy found dead at his home was killed by a single gunshot wound to his head, it was revealed today.

Police named the boy as Liam Nelson as an inquest into his death was opened and adjourned.

An investigation was launched after his body was discovered at the house in Brook Road, Merstham, Surrey on Thursday evening, but no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: "The firearm involved was a licensed weapon and police are satisfied there is no risk to the wider public."

Friends and relatives of the teenager have left tributes to him on social networking site Facebook, some suggesting Liam had been bullied and also suffered greatly after the death of his grandfather.

Laura Nye wrote: "My beautiful baby brother, i miss u so much and you have left a void that will never be filled.

"I hope you are at peace now flying in the sky like pilot you always wanted to be."

another one, geez. So sad, and yet so ridiculous.

What is it with kids and no backbones these days?

According to today's news I should have either 'offed' myself back when I was in school for all the ####### I put up with throughout my entire school career or gone on a killing spree...

Before you try and 'ridicule' me for that statement either, I fit into their 'statistics' of a single-parent poor family home that also housed emotional yo-yos there as well.

A lot of teens have suicidal thoughts...it's just that not all of them act on it.
