Feel that energy guide on my old furnace lied, said it was 85% efficient, new one I installed last fall stated 96% so would expect maybe a 11% savings in my gas bill. Consistently comparing my last year's gas bills with compensation for rates and degree days, seeing a 34% savings in my fuel bill. With the energy tax credit and fuel saving, only have a couple of hundred bucks to go to get all my money back then will start to realize savings in my investment.

Met my kid brother, he outdid me by installing a vertical geothermal system, in his location with softer ground and after his energy credit had to lay out an additional $14,000.00. Where I live, would be more like $25,000.00, have to drill through solid granite for a system like his. He said by getting other electrical efficient appliances, his electric bill is remaining about the same, but his gas bill is history.

He, like me being born into a dirt poor family is very frugal and likes to have a couple of bucks in the bank, so who is better off?

He has $14,000 bucks less in his account that will grow into without a crystal ball into $18,000 over that time period, my gas bill is a thousand per year now, but again lack of a crystal ball regarding the gas rates. We are suppose to have a 4,000 year supply if the EPA would let us use it, again, no crystal ball on this. But if the interest and gas rates remain the same, he won't see a payback for at least 18 years. If he had to get a home loan to pay for that system, more like 22 years, if put on a credit card, would never pay it off. Since I know HVAC, he is going to have to replace his heat pump in an average of seven years, a rather complex system subject to failure, that's going to add several thousand dollars to his investment. And hopefully those 100 foot deep U tubes will survive.

So who is better off?

Point is, to go green in one respect causes you to become greenless in another respect.

If we develop both ice or free methane as a fuel, plus our natural gas, we will have a know 12,000 year supply, perhaps in that time with our current development rate, we will have nuclear fusion with an endless supply of energy. Enough deuterium in one gallon of seawater to power our vehicle for years.

Consider solar, wind, hybrids, fuel cells just playing around when the real stuff is still out there.

And it wouldn't matter anyway as there is NO man made global warming for wind power to help.

I am. however, in favor of anything that de-values oil prices and lessens the artificially supported influence of middle eastern countries.

Good point and I agree with you, we are paying a far greater price for this mid-eastern oil than what we see at the pumps. Not only in dollars, but with the lives of our kids.

Do you ever think we have an oil controlled congress?

Carbon dioxide produced from the burning of fossil fuels accumulates into the atmosphere and traps heat. It's really not that difficult to fathom.

For many people who don't live near a coal plant, the sulfur gets mixed in with water making water runoff acidic. It kills the trees, ruin the water supply - both the surface water, and ground water.

There's a lake nearby here that require tons of calcium carbonate yearly to neutralize the water. The surrounding trees are a lot healthier now compared to when they didn't neutralize the water. It affects the habitat of animals living in the woods which would affect the food chain.

Also, not many people are aware that in the suburbs, there's so much pavement that there's only a few water channels (sewage) that only direct the waterway to only one or a few location. Over the years, without treating this water, it affects the fisheries at the end of sewage roads.

You need to comprehend the scale. It's not just about CO2, it's a whole lot of issues involved.
