I disagree, if Steve knows of reasonable quotes where "Jesus preached" something, clear enough for him to take a stand on it... I would like to see those quotes, he obviously feels so strong about it he made it a Signature pic.... one would think he could produce something, no?

You're better off starting your own thread, Danno. No one's gonna come to this thread looking for a challenge thrown down by you on a topic unrelated to the subject of this thread.

Danno, I well remember your "It's not fascism when we do it" signature.

Forgotten it? Here's a reminder. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/211910-censorship/page__p__3195378__fromsearch__1#entry3195378

When you can justify and explain that outrageous and outlandish signature, I'd say you can claim the moral high ground and demand an explanation from Steve.

Unless and until, he's got exactly the same right to put whatever he likes in his sig that you do.

Awwe, come-on, that was posted (mostly) in humor.

You are right, he can post what he likes, and I guess I can call him on it... and he can, in turn.... dodge because he (and apparently no one else) can back up the Claim that -Jesus preached social Justice.

The topic is Hebrew Schools. I went to one.

One thing they taught me in Hebrew School is that Fascism and Nazism are terrible things, which resulted in the mass murder of 6 million Jews.

You consider your signature about Fascims to be "humor". I can take a joke that involves Nazis - I find Hogans Heroes funny, I found Inglorious Basterds pretty funny, I thought Mel Brooks "Hitler on Ice" was funny. I didn't find your signature funny at all. Maybe it's my sense of humor but I don't think so.

I think my Hebrew School education gave me good guidance throughout my life to coexist in a non-Jewish world while standing up for my own culture and people, and calling out when I see something offensive.

By the way, if you're unable to find references to Jesus and his parables and teaching on social justice, you truly disappoint me.

You offer an interesting perspective here at VJ... because of your background so to me thats a good thing, in fact it's an opportunity to learn things in an area I want to grow in.

I don't try to offend people (usually) and if you took offense to that cartoon,.. a cartoon which hardly glorifies the things I think most of us would object too, I regret that

but to be honest I can't promise I won't use it again, especially when Health care passes under the conditions it will.

I have not noticed, over the years there have been photos and cartoons as well as comments posted here which I'm sure offended a lot of peoples faiths and nationalities etc, usually those are posted with the intent to offend.

My cartoon is tame in comparison.

Danno, I do believe you when you say that you don't intentionally try to offend. You are not mean spirited, I've come to see that in your posts.

I disagree oh so strongly with just about all of your positions - on US politics, on gay marriage, on health care, on global warming. But I respect your right to your own point of view, and it is fun to debate issues with those who are different from us. It would be very boring if we all agreed about everything. The key is that you do keep things civil which cannot be said for all on VJ.

As I wrote in my censorship thread (which I'm still disgusted got locked), I will defend strongly your right to put that cartoon, or anything you wish, in your signature. Even if it sickens me, which it does.

And what about my desire to have hot monkey sex with Dana Perino on the Capital steps?

Wouldn't you rather have a threesome? Dana Perino and Maria Bartiromo. Maria's got a real purty mouth.

I used to be pretty hot for Maria. Back in the dotcom days, when Joey Ramone serenaded her.

She hasn't aged very well though. I don't think she looks very sexy these days.

She's going to be in your favorite upcoming movie though, AJ!

So what do you think about this? A legitimate use of taxpayer money? Or a religious school pretending to not be a religious school to get funded by the taxpayer?

The school has not met its enrollment targets. It would appear that public isn't too enthused about this idea either.

Less than a month before students are scheduled to file into the classrooms of the Hatikvah International Academy Charter School, the East Brunswick Board of Education has initiated litigation aimed at preventing it from opening.

...

Giacobbe said the motions were filed due to the charter school’s failure to show that it has enrolled at least 90 percent of its approved maximum student enrollment, which is required for charter schools under New Jersey law.

NYET! NO! :o

Ok, so I have a question for you guys. This is not something on which I've formed an opinion (yet).

Here's the scenario:

K-8 charter school. Taxpayer funded. Enrollment will be by lottery, lottery open to all students within the district. If there aren't enough lottery applicants from within the district, the lottery will be opened up to outside-the-district students as well.

The school claims they will provide an educational experience that includes "immersion" into Hebrew as a second language. No other second languages will be offered. In addition to providing an education that conforms to New Jersey state mandated curricular standards, they are also claiming to give their students an appreciation of Jewish culture. They claim they will do so without use of any religious texts - secular texts only. The state of NJ has approved this charter school so I am sure some due diligence has already been put in to ensure that this school not breach the separation of church and state. The school itself has gone out of its way to say that it wants a staff and student population that represents the diversity of the district in which it will lie. This means the staff will have to be very diverse.

One detail that I don't quite understand is this: the school claims they will have one English-speaking and one Hebrew-speaking teacher in every class. If Hebrew is only to be taught as a second language, why is this necessary?

So what do you think about this? A legitimate use of taxpayer money? Or a religious school pretending to not be a religious school to get funded by the taxpayer?
