Hey Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone can elaborate to explain when this happens?

If you married abroad, then submit an I-130 Petition, when will your official status change to "married"? That is, if you have not gone and registered the marriage or anything in the USA.

I would like to know how long or when you are officially seen as married for reasons like bank accounts, credit cards, tax returns, and health insurance etc etc.

Will the status be changed by the government when your spouse receives their visa abroad? or when they enter the USA at the POE? or as soon as they are issued a SS number?

Are you responsible for changing your status yourself???

If anyone can help clear this up it will make my life MUCH easier!!

As soon as you have a marriage certificate, you can change all that. My wife changed all that in the philippines...started with her postal ID, then we just got her passport changed over. For me I need my wife with me before they will add her to DEERS as i could not get her added to DEERS (military system) while I was visiting her. You can change your status to married anytime after you get married, but in most cases different places have to see the certificate....marriage is global not just in the country you got married.

Removal of conditions Journey

16 March 2012 Sent I-751 package from Aviano AB, Italy.

29 March 2012 Received everything back...wrong fee. thought we didn't have to pay biometrics since we were sending fingerprint cards and passport photos.

30 March 2012 Sent everything out again from Aviano AB, Italy.

10 April 2012 Check cashed

17 April 2012 Received NOA1 dated 6 April.

06 Dec 2012 Received 10 yr green card. Letter said it was approved 28 November 2012.

In the USA you do not need to register anything... Once you are married (anywhere) you are married and your status is married... No registration or notification to anyone is needed...

10/14/2000 - Met Aboard a Cruise ship

06/14/2003 - Married Savona Italy

I-130

03/21/2009 - I-130 Mailed to Chicago lockbox

11-30-09: GOT GREEN CARD in mail!!!!!!

Citizenship Process;

1/11/2013: Mailed N400 to Dallas Texas

3/11/2013: interview.. Approved

4/4/2013. : Oath! Now a U.S. citizen!
