Can senator help expedite IR-1 visa?

i am applying for my wife's 130 and im in bad health my sister is sponsoring her and has contacted the senators office here in the state where she lives and were told as soon as we recieve the letter with the service number or what ever you call it they can help us expidite my wifes visa is this true? we have also included letters from doctors as to my health condition oh and by the way we have 2 sons ages 3 and 4 years old and i brought them from the phillipines when i came back to the us in dec 2009 they are us citizens now due to birth abroad of a us citizens .

once we file the forms how long will it take for the letter of reciept ?

and can a senator help expidite a visa>?

If you have grounds for an expedite, you don't need a Senator's help. Generally, your health problem would need to be the kind that requires your spouse to assist you or life threatening in order to be sufficient grounds for an expedite. You'll need to provide details and supporting evidence with your expedite request. You Senator's office may be able to help you evaluate whether you actually have grounds for an expedite.

for sure it will not help unless they have changed somethings, i know a woman who had terminal cancer and she sent her doctors prognosis letter plus contacted senator still they waited in ap for 9 months

It would not hurt to try! Worse thing that can happen is you will get a "no" answer.

I did write a letter to both of my senators & they wore helpful in a way!

Service Center : California Service Center

Consulate : Mumbai, India

04.20.09: Marriage

05.02.09: Hubby left to India :(

08.21.09: Our pride & joy was born (a girl)

09.22.09: I-130 Sent

10.05.09: I-130 NOA1

02.22.10: Touched :)

02.23.10: Touched :)

02.27.10: I-130 NOA2 :)))))))))))))))

03.02.10: Called & got my case # & confirmed email address

03.02.10: Paid AOS/IV bills Online

03.04.10: AOS shows paid

03.08.10: IV shows paid

03.15.10: AOS & DS230 packages sent to NVC

03.17.10: AOS & DS230 packages delivered @ 11:05am

03.22.10: Packages received according to AVR

03.30.10: RFE per AVR - J1 Visa Waiver

03.31.10: Overnighted the waiver to NVC

04.01.10: RFE delivered @ 9:14am signed by J. Desmond

04.05.10: I SIF!!!!!!!! GOD IS GOOD & FULL OF MIRACLES!!!!!

04.06.10: Case Completed per AVR

05.25.10: Hubby's interview @ 7:30am. Thank you LORD!!!!

05.25.10: Visa approved & picket up @ VFS - THANK YOU GOD!

05.27.10: Hubby's home sweet home

Sadly, there's no expediting of AP, (additional security checks) but happily these are uncommon for Philippine beneficiaries.
