Yeah, it can get like that sometimes....before i got there, we would talk for HOURS,....then when i got there, it was still the same (thank god),...then when i got back it got a little hard to find things to talk about, and what made things even worse was she had no internet in her house + no landline telephone so IMAGINE talking to her everyday for 5 minutes in the afternoon and 5 minutes at night, it was a "hi/bye" that was it for like 2 months,....litterally killed me.

So now,..thank god she has a landline + internet again, and well...now we just talk about each other's day and how it was, etc, etc.

So best thing to do, is just talk about what happened during the day, you'll be surprised how fast time flies....

OH....and 1 more thing,....DON'T under ANY circumstances IF IT CAN BE AVIODED talk about negagitve things, or things of the past like past relationships, etc, etc.

Because its alot harder to resolve things like that over the phone than in person...trust me i know from experience....so just talk positive, happy things.

good luck

I enjoy your stories, guys. They are very helpful. It is good to know that the "silence" is normal.

Its pretty normal Tuan - most people dont talk endlessly (but I do know a few who do)hehe

We prefered to chat on IM - then we could talk on the web cam, share pictures of things and talk about them. Also it gives to opportunity to think a little without long moments of silence like on the phone. Personally I hate talking on the telephone and rarely use it even with family and freinds. My phone conversations are direct and to the point, yet I can chat on IM for hours. Maybe that sounds kind of strange but it is what it is!!!

Hang in there my friend - you are not experiencing anything "abnormal"!!!

When my husband was still in VN, before and after we got married, we could talk to each other for 2-3 (even a couple of times 5) hours at a time!! At first, we talked about our history--including ex boyfriends/girlfriends, families, childhood memories, etc. Then, we started talking hypotheticals--if one passed, would the other one re-marry; what would we name our children & how many, etc.

Now that he's over here, we manage to get in at least 1 hour of conversation each day/night. Wether it be about our days, or his family over there, or our plans in the upcoming days/weeks/months. We do manage to talk about something everyday...More recently (last few days), I've noticed both of us being pretty tired (maybe something to do with the time change?) so our converstation has been cut short, but we definately have tons to talk about.

I wouldn't stress it though, maybe your "honeymoon" period is over. It happens in most relationships. Just remember why you fell in love with one another an hopefully that will keep your relationship going strong! :)

One thing I'd like to pass on when dealing with our long distance relationship that has been invaluable, get a small pocket camcorder. I have a Flip Ultra HD camcorder that records for 2 hours in quality so good that it almost feels like you're there again. It also fits in my pocket and records instantly so I don't have to think about it. I don't have to deal with media because it records onto built-in memory, and when I plug it into my laptop to charge the battery, it transfers the footage and sorts it. I have hours and hours of video from each of our meetings with simple stuff as us going out on a date to just acting silly. Each time I miss my wife and she's sleeping or not available, I just watch the video on my computer and it reminds me just how special our love is and how much I love the little quirks and things about my wife that cannot be conveyed through the internet. On a side note, I actually used one of these video clips to find my lost wallet in a taxi cab in Hong Kong, but that's a different story, lol. I just couldn't recommend enough using some form of video camera to capture your moments together and reliving them at will. These video clips also give us something else to talk about. A way to jog our memories about past events, and how much fun we had together. This definitely helps morale!

Strangely we never seemed to lack from talking and sometimes would for hours chat. We also knew very little at first each others language and I would help her with English and explain many things about where I live and my life so she could get to know me well and where she would be living. We goofed around a lot and never tired of finding pics online and say this is you and it would be a monkey and what not. Some days it would be chats about my family and each family member and the name and their history. Sometimes it would be my job and names and even send her pics having to do about my work. Ditto on my school. I can see how it may be difficult sometimes to chat as we get distracted but this was going to be the babe that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. She also was going to need to know everything about me for the interview. Plus it helped that we both like to chat a lot.

We talk a couple of times each day and we never run short of things to talk about because we treat the yahoo connection between us like a window between two people sitting on a couch... this morning we watched a movie together yet so far apart, but aside from snuggling, we treated just the same as watching a show together at home... with so much behind us and so much ahead of us, we always have something to talk about... there are some days we may be tired and not so talkative, but that happens to everyone...

The long distance relationship does not suck.. the being apart and not being able to do much about it is what sucks...

We will be going to the gym together when she gets here so for now we are limited to working out together online...

my wife and I cook the same recipe for dinner while on IM, so it's like we're having dinner together, and I'm learning to cook as well

Thats such a great idea! Very sweet. You're lucky you don't have to deal with the complication of a large time difference. I don't usually eat dinner until around 8pm and by then its 1am in the UK and my fiance is definitely fast asleep by then! so I guess this wouldn't work very well for us...

There's a big time difference between the US and Vietnam. On the west coast of the US it's either 14 or 15 hours, depending on whether it's daylight savings in the US. It works out pretty good, though. When it's early morning here it's evening over there. When it's evening here it's tomorrow morning there. :)

What I would do at times is for my lunch since I was 12 hours behind, I would make it early and bring the laptop into the kitchen and let her watch as I made it. I also did this while I was canning pickles and other things as well. When I would go and exercise the dogs in the back yard, I would set the laptop up in a safe place and point it torwards the action. I would also go and do the same when I would be doing my gardening or other chores. It seemed to make her feel a part of my life to both her and myself. I am just glad that I do not have to do any of that anymore since we are finially together.

I never went that far to share lunches/dinners with my husband. One time, I did turn on the webcam to introduce him to "our" dogs... :)

I guess its weird that before my wife and I got married, we found it fairly easy. We spoke every single day on msn when we were both at home, and if we were not at home we both had blackberry messenger phones and always spoke on that.

We never ran out of things to talk about really.

We were just the same! We stayed online together from 10 to 15 hours every day, he was with me wherever I went and I was with him wherever he went. We had quiet minutes, hours, and days...but just having him online 24/7 was so warming. Now that I am in the US, we talk WAY less on the phone in the sense of the length of each call (which is stange to me), and we do text and email less than we used to, the latter is normal I guess :P

my wife and I cook the same recipe for dinner while on IM, so it's like we're having dinner together, and I'm learning to cook as well

Sweet :luv:
