I am sure the answer to this is somewhere, but I can't find it. My husband will arrive on a cr1 immigrant visa in April. He has a job offer, but we are not sure when he is allowed to start working. What do we have to do once he's here? How long will it take?

Technically, he can start working the day he arrives. However, most places of employment will want a SSN, and that takes 2-3 weeks to arrive (automatically in the post, if you ticked the box saying you want one on the paperwork).

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

When he gets his SS number. Check out the form I-9 for employment - lists the requirements to meet to prove you're eligible to work.

His stamp on visa makes it a temp green card for a year - that's one proof that he is eligible to work

SSN - second proof

Identity proof - passport.

ROC 2009
Naturalization 2010
