It's mindboggling that half the country fails to grasp this.

Believe me, I have trouble understanding how we could have such a fundamental difference... Maybe because I am one of the ones caught in the injustice of it all that I cannot seem to grasp how one can actually believe that it is OK for profit driven companies to decide who is worth saving and treating and who is not... and how healthcare is considered a luxury and not a right... Maybe if I had never experienced the cruel side of healthcare I would think differently and believe it a luxury... manbe?

So you believe society would not be harmed if we had the health system of the 18th century?

Never mind that all the education in the world, wouldn't save you from cancer or heart disease back then.

Depends really on what you consider 'harm.'

Many would argue that increased better health care has led to our demise in people living longer and an ever growing population that continues to suck up more and more resources at an unsustainable rate...

healthcare is considered a luxury and not a right...

It is a luxury. Health care requires other individuals labor on your behalf. You think you have a right to that? Maybe if we still allowed slavery, then you could own a doctor and an RN and a few medical device manufacturing dudes and an anesthesiologist and ...

But we don't condone slavery anymore. We're a free nation now. Thousands died to rid of us slavery and now you wish to bring it right back under the guise of compassion? Shame. On. You.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

That's a problem. The government shouldn't be taking care of you when that happens. They should let people die. Death is part of God's plan, why do we try so hard to avoid it? It makes no sense. We have immune systems, which are gifts from God, and if that does not cure us surely we do not deserve to live? Surely it is God's will that we die?

LMFAO!

i'm happy steven will be paying for my wife and boys for healthcare while he lives in a 2 bedroom apartment and has zero chance to better himself. I'll take his money everyday ... cause he is one income (jinky) with steven providing unreported income by drawing cartoons and has only one child .... the other child he accidentally fathered with his ex is older and is is claimed with his ex ....

can you give the vendetta a rest?

The USA would not be a first world nation.

You and I don't really benefit though from the other living or dieing...... So health care is valuable to the individual to keep one alive, but to the mass, it really has no real benefit.

Okay, so the rest of the developed world is stupid to invest in this then.

Nevertheless, I must have missed the first three worlds of the Constitution you beat on about, you know, the first words that are three times the size of everything else.

The other part you seem to have missed is "promote the general Welfare".

Where have you been shopping for insurance? Every insurance policy I have ever had, has covered preventative services...... Granted it's only been a couple and in 2 different states, but still...

Ahhh, but what if you cannot get insurance because they will not cover you??? You would have to spend the 7.5% AGI to be able to deduct any expenses for preventative medicine... Again, perhaps it is the point of view we are each looking from that is determining our belief in the responsibility to care for its' people. If a person has never been denied insurance, had a major illness of someone close to them that was not able to get the care they needed or knew someone who had everything taken from them because of a disease that they could not pay the medical bills for... then they would have the view of "whats the problem, just get insurance that covers everything" or "let the people die" attitude... But I believe that they would certainly change their mind if it was happening to them or someone they cared for.... I have seen such views change after a job loss or illness...

You WANT to live, You WANT to be treated, but you don't NEED it.

That's the difference.

Health care is just like a new car. You WANT one, but you can't always afford one....

That may sound somewhat ###### up in many ways, but health care is a service provided by people who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a proper education to perform that service. On top of that, those people are then told how the must do a certain procedure, told what drugs they can and cannot use, and are criminals if they differ from what's expected from them to the T.

More people could "afford" health care, could afford insurance if necessary, if the system itself was lightened up a bit and procedures were relaxed a bit and you were given a choice on how you wanted something performed, or given a choice where your drugs came from and who they came from and were allowed to use certain ones that are blacklisted in the US.

I pay $252 monthly for healthcare for my family and this is not including vision, dental and the FSA. Everyone should have to pay less than this.

Everyone loses when for profit companies rule your life and care and put profit above all else. It couldn't get any worse if the government ran things and yes, I totally agree that the government should run healthcare.

Go to a profit driven hospital and then go to a government run hospital. You will see a huge difference. Government run: enough staffing, plenty of supplies and care. Profit driven: scrimp on staffing to the point of being unsafe, miserable workers and scrimp on supplies etc. I am a nurse and I see the difference.

Screw big business!

Oh and healthcare IS a necessity not a want! Ridiculous. Tell that to any mother out there with a sick baby and who is going through school (for example) and tell me her baby should die do to lack of proper care because it is NOT a need???
