Virginia first to ban mandated health coverage

Virginia's General Assembly became the first in the nation Wednesday to approve legislation that bucks any attempt by President Barack Obama and Congress to implement a national health care overhaul in individual states.

The Republican-ruled House of Delegates, with wide Democratic support, voted 80-17 without debate for the largely symbolic step aimed at the Democratic-backed reforms pushed by Obama and stalled in Congress. The vote sends the measure to Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell who intends to sign it.

Thirty-four other state legislatures have either filed or proposed similar measures — statutes or constitutional amendments — rejecting health insurance mandates, according to the American Legislative Exchange Council.

But...but...liberals say we all WANT government health care. This simply doesn't make sense. Has anyone sent the liberal polls to the legislatures?

I forget: How many state legislatures does it take to propose an amendment without Congress?

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

It's my opinion, no party can Stop the Run-away federal Govt, once they get in, they quickly become part of the machine.

If this trainwreck we are headed on is to be stopped, it can only come from States somehow reasserting the power back to the states, how?.... I guess by clear Amendments.

It could be called a _States bill of Rights.

MAny of our states are bigger and more populous than most countries, there is no reasons states can't solve these social problems themselves.

Some states may lean more toward "Govt is the answer" and other states might not, people will be free to live in which states they best like.

When 50 different states are each trying different ways to solve common problems, the best plans will naturally emerge and other states will follow their lead.

As it is now.... with one big Federal gov't plan for all things... there is little competition and no way of knowing if SSI is working as well as it could.

The founders intended for a limited Federal Gov't for this very reason.

I've wondered since you switched, if there was ever any logic to it or if it was entirely random.

The "win9" part at the beginning makes one think of Windows95, or Windows98. But then there's the "NNµ7 §£@¥€r" which looks mostly like rubbish, except that the "€r" at the very end looks like an "er" suffix.

So.. we get something like "I'm a Win98 Microsofter filled with rubbish who likes to suck Bill Gates #######". Is that approximately what you're trying to tell us AJ?
