Hello there,

My wife is scheduled for her interview at the US Embassy in Manila in a few days, and I am just very anxious and have some questions for anyone who has been through this process before. Maybe just help set my mind at ease for the big day.

My wife and I used a very qualified and helpful attorney here in the US, and all of her paperwork is very squared away. She has never been in a previous marriage, never had kids. Spent a year in Korea, and we even got her Korean Police clearance along with her spotless NBI certificate.

We have every document required for her interview, along with a great affidavit of support.

Her passport was released to the people at St. Luke's during her interview, so it should be with the folks at the embassy as we speak.

They did not give my wife her shots while we were there. They told her it was a bad idea because I was there with her that month and we had been sexually active...although I don't know the reason for this. They gave her a spreadsheet and said she could just get her shots when she came to the US.

So my biggest fear, how will my wife be treated at the interview? We have been married since July, and in the VISA process since October. She has a huge photo album with our wedding pictures and tons of photos of her and I together, which she will be bringing with her to the interview.

Will this interview be difficult for my wife? She seems a little nervous about it, but I tell her they are going to be nice (although I don't know this for sure).

Are there any possible pitfalls that could come up during the interview that might keep her from getting a VISA issued??

Will my wife know if she has been approved during the interview? When approved, how long does it take for her to receive her passport with attached VISA?

I am very scared about this because I am deploying to Afghanistan in September, and I would lose all hope if I had to spend more time away from her between now and then.

Hope anyone can make sense of this jumble of questions and concerns. I am just very anxious to finally have my wife with me in the US, so if anyone could help set my mind at ease, give me any information on how the interview goes down, any suggestions, or shared experiences, I would be incredibly thankful.

nothing to worry about. the nervousness is just from fear of what's going to happen really

looks like all your papers are in order so all your wife has to do is answer the officer's questions. they're just info about you, your relationship, -to confirm the things you wrote on your application as well as a check on how she knows you well (ex. how many brothers you have, what your father does for a living) . if she answers with conviction and consistency, there questions are usually shorter. the interview usually takes from 10-20 minutes and only takes longer if there are things the consular officer wants confirmed, clarified and/or checked.

yes, she'll know after the interview if she's approved or needs to present more docs or denied. reasons for denial are serios offences like drug dealing or clear proof of a fraudukent relashionship, so i don't think your wife will be denied.

if approved, she'll wait 3 days to 2 weeks.

by the way, tell her to paste some of the pics on a bondpaper because an album will not fit into the window where she'll show them and the other docs (prior to interview)

PS pray too, it helps you relax your mind :)

Hello there,

...

You don't know the reason? Because that's what married people do! ;):D Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Don't worry...it seems that you have your ducks lined up and are ready for the interview.

The interview should be looked at as formality, but one necessary for the immigration process. The CO is not really there to be nice though...so you should not expect to be treated with kid gloves. They are there to do the job....and with the volume of applicants going through the consulate in Manila, the process will be even less personal. Your wife will be asked questions regarding your relationship. Majority of the material for those questions will come from your petition and any supporting materials you submitted at the time you filed your I-130. Some of the other questions will concern your relationship, and while the CO may not have the direct answer to the question, he/she will be asking it to gauge the response from your wife. For example, they may ask your wife what your favorite food is. While that information is not necessarily in any of the documents the CO has, the question is more geared towards verifying the bona-fide nature of your marraige. (Most wives should have an idea of what type of food their husband likes). Lack of hesitation and honesty in answering questions is important.

Are there any possible pitfalls that could come up during the interview that might keep her from getting a VISA issued??

That is not really a question we can answer, because approval and visa issuance is based on the the interviewing CO. If you have all the required documents, and answer the questions to the CO's satisfaction, there should be no impediment to approval and issuance of the visa.

The outcome will be told to your wife upon the interview conclusion, and any further instructions regarding the visa will also be given to her at that time.

Good luck

Most likely your wife needs vaccinations that are not recommended while pregnant - maybe because it might affect the fetus when it develops, I don't know, but that's most likely the medical reason. I just got my required vaccinations, and the doctors told me that I should not plan to get pregnant for at least a month after vaccinations (which I don't really plan to anytime soon). If they gave her a vaccination record sheet I would say you should make sure to have her take them once you two are both sure she is not pregnant.

I think vaccinations should be easier than the actual physicals, because it can be done thru a clinic covering your insurance if it's more cost-efficient, however, the records need to still be verified by the USCIS-regognized civil surgeons, so if you decide to have the vaccinations from a different clinic, make sure you provide the vaccination records for sign-off from the civil surgeon.

I just did all my medical exam and vaccinations with the civil surgeon, so my case is different than yours. But they gave me the option to do the vaccines at a different clinic if I prefer to do so and return to them with the records once done.

As for the interview... well checking your stuff it seems you got everything pretty well-covered, so you shouldn't have problems. I haven't had my interview yet but based on the paperwork I have to go through while applying here in the US that is my opinion.

Good luck to you! :)

Most of the people at the embassy including pre-screeners and consuls are very nice and pleasant. Yes, they are straight to the point when they ask questions that scares some applicants in anyhow, but that's what their job for...to dectect whether the applicant is there for a legit reason or not but all in all, the interview is pretty easy.

Your wife seem to be well prepared so there's nothing to worry about.

CO does not always tell you if you're approve or not after the interview is done, so better ask her/him before leaving the cubicle.

Prayer is the best medicine for your fear, nervous and unease mind.

Good luck!

You should be Ok for the interview from your post.

She is going to get quite a few shots here, again at your expense. Technically you have paid for her shots at St Lukes (medical fee) so now you will have to pay again here at your doc or county health dept. My wife got 8 shots total, 5 at St lukes prior to the interview and 3 here. Varicella (chicken pox), HPV (now discontinued I hear) and 1 other I have forgotten.

This was my wife’s interview experience. The interview was only about five minutes long. The main thing they asked for was photos and emails, remember all this stuff needs to fit under the window 1”H x 12” L don’t take hard covers and or albums.

August 11, 2009 Embassy Review : My interview experience:

A Filipino Lady Screener asked me a few questions:

My name, age, date of birth, petetioners name, kailan kayo kinasal(date of marriage) paano kayo nagkakilala( how u meet him) first time u meet him( month and year) , last time he visited you and your daughter has a US citezenship already, then she asked me pictures and emails and signed ds230 part2.

FINAL INTERVIEW: He greeted me "MAGANDANG UMAGA PO" (YOUNG AMERICAN CONSUL)

1) My name, husband name, mother and father names(husband)

2) Anong Trabaho ng asawa mo?( what is your husband job?)

3)kailan kayo kinasal(date of marriage) HE SAID PAKITAAS NG KANAG KAMAY NA NAGSASABI KA NG TAMA AT TOTOO

( Raised your right hand that your telling the truth)

4) And your daughter has a US citizenship already,

5) ok APPROVED NA VISA MO ( YOUR VISA IS APPROVED)

no one can tell you there will be no problems, those that do are simply doing so to make you feel better. anthing can happen at this stage, I told my now wife while in the interview to answer only the questions asked and to not volunteer or ramble on anwering any question. short precise anwer to each question and answer the question only.

as for the paper work sounds like your confident, thats all that matters. search posts about NBI seems that i recall if certain wording were incorrect that it might cause a problem or delay. maybe someone can remember.

Thanks to all for the very helpful information.

I have one more question.. Are there any further fees my wife will have to pay once inside the embassy? Like any fees required to have her visa mailed to her, etc?

Thanks everyone.

MORE questions.. Sorry, just incredibly worried.

Regarding proof of our relationship. My wife and I don't really exchange a lot of emails, because we spend about 95% of our online time using SKYPE, or Yahoo Messenger.

I was told that a lot of times they like to see emails, and letters to prove an ongoing relationship..

What we do have, however, are about 100+ photographs of me and my wife together, from our earliest days together in Korea, to our wedding in the Philippines, and all the time we spent together in her beautiful country in the following months...

My wife will also be able to provide my paid flight itineraries for all of my trips to the Philippines.

Will this be enough evidence for them? We never really thought of the email thing because, like I said, we always communicate via webcam from my house to hers, or just casual chatting in yahoo messenger.

Thanks again. Just worried worried worried. I miss my sweet angel so much, and it tears us apart to be so far from one another.

Thanks again for the support everyone. Hope you can tolerate all my silly questions.

Regarding proof of our relationship. My wife and I don't really exchange a lot of emails, because we spend about 95% of our online time using SKYPE, or Yahoo Messenger.~~~~Few printed emails, 1 chat (5-14 pages) each month and sms/texts worked for us.

I was told that a lot of times they like to see emails, and letters to prove an ongoing relationship..~~~I wasn't asked for emails, only for some cards.

What we do have, however, are about 100+ photographs of me and my wife together, from our earliest days together in Korea, to our wedding in the Philippines, and all the time we spent together in her beautiful country in the following months...~~~I brought 300+ photos and some screen shots but the pre-screener only asked for some (our wedding pics).

My wife will also be able to provide my paid flight itineraries for all of my trips to the Philippines.~~~We too had a bunch but they didn't ask for it.

As far as I know, there is no feature directly in SKYPE to print out the typed chat logs, or the logs of the voice conversations. To print out your SKYPE chat logs, you can CTRL+PrntScrn the page in skype (which shows your chats for a particular period) and paste them into a word document. Repeat until you've copied and pasted all the images. Then adjust the margins and image size in the word document to be clearly visible and print. I think we had about 20 pages for the interview. You can choose to print all or some of the chat logs....up to you. Good luck.
