Police record requirements

I'm looking ahead at what documents I'll eventually need, and I'm a little confused about police records. I've seen two different requirements - one that you need them for everywhere you've spent more than 12 months, and another that you need them for everywhere you've spent more than 6 months.

I'm a UK citizen and have lived here all of my my life, except that I studied in Canada for 9 months. My study visa was for a year but I only stayed the 9 months. I also came home to the UK for a few weeks at Christmas, so technically I was there for 4 months, and then another 5 months.

I know I need UK police records, but what about Canadian records? what is the minimum time I need to have spent to require police records, and if it's only 6 months, does the fact that I took a break mean that I don't need the records?

I know I'm looking into this early, but I saw that it takes 4 months to get Cnadian police records so I wanted to get things moving now if I have to...

Thanks!

For the London Consulate, it's every country that you have been resident in for 12 months after your 18th birthday, unless you were resident for more than 6 months in your country of birth after the age of 16.

So in my case, I was born in France, moved to Switzerland when I was 6 and Germany when I was 10, spent 7 months in France during my gap year aged 19, and finally to England. I'm getting certificates for France (more than 6 months post-16 in country of birth), UK and Germany.

If you were born in the UK and only spent 9 months in Canada, then technically you only need your ACPO certificate.
