Hello everyone,

I am a little confused about what police clearances are needed for my fiance to obtain prior to her interview at the US embassy In Thailand.

1. She currently lives in Australia and has lived there for eight months. Does she need a police clearance for Australia?

2. She lived in the USA for apx. four years between Rhode Island and PA. Do beneficiaries need to present police clearances for places they have lived with-in the United States and if so does she need to obtain clearances from both places?

3. I assume that she will have to get a police clearance for her lone residence in Thailand (Bangkok) so there is no question with that.

Also, if anyone knows how long these specific police checks take to obtain and the easiest way to obtain them that would be great to know!

Thanks.

My girl is going through this right now. She got the police clearances from Bangkok (home) and Dubai (current home). Really you only need them for the past two years but it wont hurt to get as many as possible!

Incorrect. You need police records for every country you have lived in for 12 months or more since the age of 16. Taking what the OP said into consideration though, his SO may only need a police record from Thailand. I'm not sure about Australia since that is her current residence. I would highly recommend getting one for Australia & Thailand.

Thanks for the replies.

We will get one for Thailand and Australia for sure. Any idea if we need police checks for the places in the USA where she lived? That is what I am most curious about. I just don't know if the police checks in the US are done automatically when you apply for the K1 or if the applicant has to obtain them him/herself ???

No need to obtain police certificates from the U.S.
