Help!

My wife has her apppointment at the embassy next Friday (I am planning to be there from Miami) The visa cost went up from $ 131 to $ 350.00, when she went to the bank to make the payment she was told that they can only take the $ 131 and that she would have to pay the balance at the embasssy, this did not any sense since she must have the passort stamped as if she made the payment in full.

I called the embassy and the moron who answer the phone did not know either!

Has anyone gone trough this process in the last few days? I need help ASAP. Please email me at patricioxrosas@gmail.com

Thank you,

Thank you,

Patricio,

Unfortunately, most people going through the US Embassy in Bogotá have had to pay the $131. Has the new price been made official? I checked the embassy's web site and their packet instructions show it as being $350. Why not pay the $131 at the bank and then pay the rest at the embassy? How about e-mailing the embassy to get their reply in writing and show that at the interview if they have a problem with the payment?

We have our appointment next wensday. I do not know of any payments to be made to a bank. The only payment that the wife has needed to make was for her DAS documents. According to this page from the bogota embassy webpage, http://bogota.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/cons...vapptfeb010.pdf it states that all payments are to be paid at the embassy at the cashier. You can read it for your self. Not meaning in any derogatory remark. Since reading your question i have been looking at the embassy webpage as well as the NVC page with any specific requirements for colombia. This is the only thing that i have come up with. Also having been in the military, i have never come across the situation that the US government ever had a person go to a bank to make a payment for services that they provide. Of course i could be wrong, but i sure hope i am not....i wish you and your wife luck...

The bank is listed in the K visa appointment instruction package. It says to pay $350 at the Bank Helm which as yakad said, it is the authorized bank in Colombia to process the visa payment. Also, disregard the "$350" fee it says you should pay because it is still $131.

US State Department has proposed to raise the price to $350. Currently this is in the "comments" phase.

The embassy in Bogota writes their appointment package once a year or less frequently. I think the author decided to anticipate the price increase when he released the document (dated Feb 2010). If the price doesn't go up, petitioners wouldn't complain too much. But if he wrote $131 planning to leave the document unchanged for another year, petitioners expecting $131 and required to pay $350 would riot.
