Hello all!

Has anyone gotten a job or worked prior to getting the EAD Card? My wife and I received notice that her card was in production, but was wondering if she can already start working or at least start applying?

THanks to everyone in that responds in advanced.

Normally I would think she could start applying BUT, there have been several cases where the card has been lost and she wouldn't want to miss out on a job she has her heart set on because of mail issues. I'd wait till it's in hand but I would start working on the resume and perhaps looking at what field she wants and what sort of income she's looking as so she knows what's a "good wage" versus a "bad wage".

Thanks Aussie!

I guess the better question would be is it legal to start working without the EAD card physically?

She has been looking around at a bunch of sites like monster, careerbuilder etc, and will start submitting her resume.

But we were wondering if it was ok to be hired while wating for the card in the mail. I'm guessing yes since the card production basically means it's an approval right?

Thanks again.

My advice would be that your wife should start sending out her resume and looking for work right away. She cannot START WORK until she has the card in her hand, but in this economy I would suggest starting the job search as soon as possible.

In my own experience, I felt a little weird starting to send my resume out and attend job exams in January (right after I sent in my AOS application), but here I am months later... and I haven't even been called for an interview. So I think the sooner she can get her application out there to companies, the better!

Someone suggested that she might "miss out on a job she had her heart set on" if she didn't wait to apply but I see it the other way around. If she doesn't apply for that job, she can't be considered for it. If you have already received notice that the EAD is approved, she'll have it before long and if she already gets to the stage where she is offered a job, she can tell them she will be able to start work in 2 weeks (you should have it by then!).

Just my opinion on the matter...
