My fiance got her pink slip on March 1st. She left her passport at GUZ and was told she should receive it back with the new visa after about 3 days. It's been over a week now, and she hasn't received anything. Are longer delays normal? Should we be trying to contact the consulate to inquire? I don't see a phone number for me to call and inquire. Any advice here?

Thanks!

This is a wonderful time to CALL the DOS Hotline, Get a Human , and inquire for case status.

But - be specific - ask for:

1. current case status, with date/time stamp and

2. last prior 3 case status thingies, with date/time stamp.

then ask, specifically - 'is my case in AP, additional processing?'

I'm hoping it's just 'stuck in the mailroom' at GUZ - but if it's not stuck in the mailroom -

then it could possibly be more namechecks. They would not have told her, on interview day, about this.

But - if it's namechecks - it's namechecks. That in itself is not so detrimental, it only adds to the time.

IF , though, they issued a blue slip, to request more info, via ems mail, well, that's whats gonna be in the packet, instead of the visa packet.

The DOS # is in my profile, under /my story / tab. Call them, today.

----

OTOH - she was told to fill out an EMS label , for her visa packet. Did she get the EMS tracking # off of the EMS label?

If she did - she can track it online with EMS (and so can you) - let me know if you need the URL for 'english lookups for tracking'.

Good Luck ! Waiting Sucks !

Thanks, it was definitely pink and she does have the EMS tracking number. It hasn't been sent out yet.

I guess I can try calling as you suggested. Thanks

Yes if i were you i would call DOS like Darnell said. Listen to everything he said, Hopefull it is just lost in the mailroom. My fiance dropped off her passport on mon. 8'th( March). The tracking number shows it is in the city she lives in as of today. Congrats on your pink. i'm sure everything will work out fine just a little more time.

When I called, they said that the last activity was the interview on March 1. The visa has not been issued, but the operator couldn't say why or give any advice except to contact the consulate. I've already inquired to Guangzhou using the web form.

I think I'll call back tonight or tomorrow and see if I a different person might be able to give me some better information. Does anyone have ideas for other ways to figure out what is going on?

a DOS Tele-Human will never TELL you the case is in AP - unless YOU ask. Did you ask? What did that Human Say?

Sorry - if you do it exactly the way I wrote, for YOU, in Post #2, here - then you can glean something more about it.

At this stage, you should call around 11 AM CST each day (The GUZ computers are off a bit because of the time zones) until there is a 'shift in status'. I swear to GOD - knowing the 'last 3 status thingies' is/are helpful - sometimes they 'shift' and you learn more about the casefile status.

Good Luck !

Just as a follow up to potentially help others, when I called they said that the latest status update was at the interview. It was not in AP, and the operator assured me that the case looked "strong" and that we just needed to wait for it to be issued.

I used the online form to contact the consulate, and today I got a response saying that the visa has been issued and sent out. Hooray...
