i applied for my citizen ship end of Aug, 2009. Everything else went very smooth, past my interview on Nov 20, 2009. but it's now Mar, 2010 i still have not receive my oath ceremony letter. My case went through St Paul, MN office, anyone else are in the same batch with me? please let me know the status of your case. I heard the name change could cause the longer wait time, is this true?

If you are from Minnesota, St. Paul, actually in Bloomington, MN office is notorious for long delays in scheduling oath ceremonies, they like to get several thousand applicants before scheduling one. Typically held at the Viking Stadium or some university.

Senator Feingold with his pull as on the finance committee of the USCIS managed to get a special oath ceremony for us Wisconsinites. We met people from as far as Fond du Lac only 80 miles north of Milwaukee that were put in the St. Paul's (Bloomington) office. Due to the discretion of the office manage at St. Paul (Bloomington), it's not their policy to do same day oaths as other offices reported here.

I learned that the St. Paul office generates the USC certificate, for one thing the office manager that held our special ceremony said if their are any errors on your certificate, they could correct it there and then. Wife's photo that I took with her handwriting on it was held with some kind of gum with the USCIS half on her photo and on the certificate. The signature was then the current director of the USCIS done with an ink stamp.

I have a photo of the office manager handing the certificate to my wife, a very young and attractive woman, but not very accommodating. If you do a google search on oath ceremonies at the St. Paul office, can find several newspaper articles on the long delays. Wife did beg for the same day oath ceremony due to our long trip, but was informed, they don't do that at St. Paul.

I could never work for the USCIS, same old forms day after day and is a job that deals more with paper work than with people. Met a nice young woman outside of the USCIS in St. Paul, her job was just to file and file and file. So easy when to the same thing day after day to misfile, and at the USC stage, those files get quite large and heavy.

When my wife first came here, she got a job at patient assistance dealing with just about any insurance or medical aid in existence, came home everynight with a headache, but managed to complete college training to become a medical interpreter. So much happier now dealing with people rather than endless forms. USCIS from my observations do not deal with people, but with paper. Wonder if they ever heard about the paper reduction act? In our process, our applications were misplaced twice that resulted in severe stress. Not so much with USC, but certainly the the ten year card where you cannot work nor travel without a valid card.

For under five bucks can purchase 500 sheets of high quality paper, have a copy machine, scanners, ink, laser, and even a dot matrix printer, so if the USCIS wants paper, I have paper. Our stack was over 3 1/2" tall at the end of the process.

Perhaps they misplaced your application as well.

thank you all kindly for replying. It is now April 9, 2010. I still have not receive my Oath letter. Did go in for Info Pass, as well as fileing for case inquiry, even went the extra mile to hire a lawyer to check on the status of my case. Nothing works, i still don't know what happen and how long will i need to wait from now on.....I knew for fact that one of my friend's wife was interviewed on Jan 2010, and is going to her Oath ceremony next Wed 4/13. This is becoming very anoying and fraustrating... endless waiting

Have you contacted your congressman?

I would definitely contact your Senator or your Congressman, especially when you now have evidence that someone else who took their test two months after you did is scheduled for an oath ceremony. For what it is worth, yes, it does add to the length of time involved when you change your name through the citizenship process. The new name has to be legalized by a judge first and then the rest of the process takes place. Still, they have had more than sufficient time to address the issue. Put your elected representative to use :) .

Wali, generally speaking, you can only do an oath ceremony on the same day if you have your interview and test before 11 am. Anyone who is scheduled after that time does not have enough time available between their interview and the ceremony for USCIS to process the paperwork and the certificate.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Pigglet-Likewise, I definitely encourage you to contact your local congressman and/or senator about case (for free, btw...no need to pay for a lawyer here)!

Wow, I can't believe that you have been waiting since last November.... :o

As well, more than 120 days have elapsed..so technically you can take the USCIS to court over this too....

FWIW....I applied in September and had my interview on November 18th...I became a USC on November 23 with a private oath (or if I had done the public/group oath, I would have become a USC in January, as that was the earliest date here in Buffalo,NY....)

The average time between interview and oath ceremony is 1-3 months...(based on VJ stats)

You're definitely out of that timeframe!

Hope this helps. You have a right to an oath date asap! And good luck in getting that soon too!
