NANCY PELOSI: WE NEED TO PASS HEALTH CARE BILL TO FIND OUT WHAT’S IN IT

“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy. Furthermore, we believe that health care reform, again I said at the beginning of my remarks, that we sent the three pillars that the President’s economic stabilization and job creation initiatives were education and innovation—innovation begins in the classroom—clean energy and climate, addressing the climate issues in an innovative way to keep us number one and competitive in the world with the new technology, and the third, first among equals I may say, is health care, health insurance reform."

Well, I wouldn't expect any less from those that rule against the will of the people.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Right there is a prime example of what concerns me most about this bill, she explains how it is not about "health care" but about a "healthier America".

It's about Diet.... not diabetes.

I can think of no better path which will lead to more Gov't involvement in our every day lives than this will afford, in time.

Unless it's spelled out in the Bill of Rights.... it will be up for grabs, one incremental regulation at a time.

Talk about a license for mischief....... here it is.

You really are paranoid, Danno. She was talking about prevention over treatment. Proactive vs. reactive. Doctor visit vs. ER visit. If health care is delivered too late to ever more people in the most expensive way possible - the ER - then we need not worry about cost containment. Ain't gonna happen that way. So people should be afforded access to preventive care which is what she talked about.

Annual Physicals/basic care is not expensive...

and people who have insurance don't even take advantge of that.

If you want more 'preventative care' then teach people to go see their doctors more often.

Of course there's people like me who are healthy as can be and have been told by my doctor, "why do you even bother coming in? Don't come and see me until you're almost 40" lol....

Paranoid or observent about how these government programs work?

Take SSI, began as a small pension for granny. It is quickly becoming a secondary welfare for any person, any age who can qualify for the ever growing list of disabilities.

I know if two people who are collecting due to repeated substance abuse. Other people can claim their misbehaving or less than bright kids are also disabled and collecting, the schools actually promote this because... you guessed it... they get more money too (and their behavior at school is exempt from school stats on "crime in school" reports.

It's not an "evil plot" but rather the natural evolution of Big Gov.

Paranoid.

As has been pointed out, there are very few government programs that have not exceeded the scope for which they were originally intended. As has also been pointed out, providing preventive care doesn't do a whole lot unless you force people to do it, because a lot of people won't.

From a strictly budgetary standpoint, an insurer can save money by forcing the insured to live healthier lives. My current insurer has a voluntary plan that gives kickbacks for doing things that it thinks are healthy, like tracking exercise plans, reducing stress, and counting calories.

Even without the cost justification that a government healthcare plan would provide, the government tries to control diet by taxing certain consumables at higher rates because they are seen as "unhealthy."

Considering all of these factors, why do you think it is paranoid that a government sponsored health plan would pave the road to stricter controls on lifestyle, on the basis that certain lifestyles could be deemed unhealthy?

And clearly you are

Naive.

They believe the government can only do good.

They won't address Nancy's statement "WE NEED TO PASS HEALTH CARE BILL TO FIND OUT WHAT’S IN IT". Any free thinker should be frightened by that statement.

An reasonable person would see it as a poorly worded statement rather than falling into paranoia over it.
