This ghazal is one of the best pieces of Urdu poetry. Few words about great Poet NASIR KAZMI (1925-1975)

His poetry shows a depressed mood. His work addresses human longings, lost love and the struggle for survival. It is simple in form with complex and artistic ideas.

Man is a wonderful creature; he sees through the layers of fat (eyes), hears through a bone (ears) and speaks through a lump of flesh (tongue).

wawa keya bat hai.

I understood "wawa"...we use it in farsi

a lot of words in urdu are derived from farsi.....here is something on urdu:

History

Urdu developed as a vernacular based on Sanskrit-derived Prakrits, Persian, the language of the court and literature, and Arabic, the language of the Quran. The mingling of these languages with the local dialects led to the development of what are Urdu and Hindi today. Urdu is an interesting amalgam in that it shares almost half of its vocabulary with Persian and Arabic.

Urdu was the premiere language of poetry in South Asia for two centuries and has a large and rich collection of poetry in a variety of forms.

Interestingly, the word urdu itself means "army" or "horde" in Turkish.

Status

According to Ethnologue, Urdu is spoken by 104,000,000 people, primarily in India and Pakistan. It is the national language of Pakistan and one of the official languages of India. It is widely spoken by the South Asian diaspora is some 20 other countries.

Urdu and Hindi are parts of a linguistic continuum. At one end is heavily Persianized Urdu written in a modified Arabic script. At the other end is heavily Sanskritized Hindi written in the Devanagari script. The basic grammar is the same. Urdu forms the segment of the chain more towards the Persian side, and Hindi forms the segment of the chain more towards the Sanskrit side. The language halfway between the two extremes is referred to as Hindustani.

The two languages are mutually intelligible, in fact, almost indistinguishable at the informal level. In more formal speech and writing, Sanskritization or Arabo-Persianization is more pronounced. The Hindi and Urdu used in the media, literature, and official proceedings are not easily understood by speakers of the other language.

Hindi/ Urdu together represent the third most spoken language in the world.

Chinese 1,075,000,000

English 514,000,000

Hindi/Urdu 496,000,000

what is good, is a urdu lugat(syntax) book. Then when you know the root of the words, its alot of fun during conversations. Alot of words are 2 farsi words combined. So when you break it down(in your mind of course) it sounds nice. lol. i mean of course during conversation you wont be saying where hte word is derived from. but if you know the make up of the word, it pretty neat.

by the way my wife just recieved the ds3032(choice of agent form) from nvc. mail is so fast lol. i got it in july.

Dear members!!!!!!!

Assalam-o-Alaikum;

I am glad I asked everyone how they felt after having urdu banned. The following pages just proved my point!!!!!!!!!!!!! People posted more and are excited to visit this OFF TOPIC page.

Dear Shon!!!! Please try to understand this.... We are not trying to exclude you or anyone. No one has ever talked about or insulted a member when they used urdu and, INSHA ALLAH, they never will!!!!!!! People rarely ask immigration questions here on OFF TOPIC. We can simply have English only policy on immigration thread, while speaking a mix language here on OFF TOPIC. So, if someone wanna ask a serious immigration question, they should do so in english on the other thread because, like you said, they might get wrong info in a different language and people who dont nderstand urdu wont be able to correct it. If still someone wanna ask immigration question in a different language, they are doing so on their own risk.

Lets all be freinds again, please post in response to things that are in english. Infact, majority of posts are in english even today. If you feel like responding to things that are in urdu, just ask for translation. Many will be happy to translate it for you. This will make sure we are all friendly and no one is excluded.

Now, if your response again is, "this is a U.S immigration board that's why it should only be in english", then what do you say about USCIS and NVC? Their main menu on primary phone numbers say, "para espaneol oprima dos (2)". That means it's caller's choice to press dos (2) if they wanna speak spanish and they will be happy to provide info in Espaneol. I dont press dos (2) because I dont understand spanish, but I cant ask them to erase spanish option from their phone lines just because of me. Its that simple.

So, please ask for translation if you wanna know whats been spoken in urdu. You will enjoy it. I guarantee it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok my friend????
