Not under the presupposition of -Look we know you kids are either doing drugs or will be doing drugs so lets talk about doing them safely... which is the exact tone of many sex education classes.

As a side note, we have spent BILLIONS of dollars on the DARE program and research shows it has little to no effect on whether kids will or..... will not use drugs.

Fair enough. I'm saying if you want a third option besides abstinence (didn't work for you) or being carefree and careless, teach teens about how to protect themselves from STD's and unwanted pregnancies.

Hey, I dont think u are a bad guy or a racist. People these days tend to read way too much meaning into any comments made concerning race, especially when one is not the same race. I am a black person and I see ur post as simply a POST even if certain areas where highlighted or something similar.

If i was hearing this statistics on the news and later telling a friend, I would emphasize the percentage on BLACK WOMEN because its odd that it should affect black women so much more!! this is enlightening news and nothing more. I am married to a white man and I would hate to constantly do lots of calculating and brainstorming before I can make simple comments.my husband jokingly tells me sometimes that he is my SLAVE, and am I to take offence when he one day(he has not done it YET) playfully chases me and catches me and yells playfully that I(black woman) is his slave?? Things like this may happen and it cant always mean something bad. Lets not judge too soon and eagerly!!

There are racist in the world over, but we have to stop over reacting to everything and find deeper and better meanings when they may be found.

Very refreshing view :)

So you define abstinence as time in between sexual encounters?

First of all you are assuming a lot there about me and second of all, abstinence can mean different things, such as one might abstain from certain foods for a time for medical or religious reasons.

Another person might abstain from sex until they are ready for the responsibility of it.

Another might abstain from alcohol for ever or for a period

It can mean different things to different people.

It does boil down to one thing.. controlling one desire for something.

When we control our passions and desires, we control our future and destiny.

This one factor "Self control" is the greatest difference between failure and success.

Dude, you have big ones.

Aids is also a big issue for the community, particularly in DC. As is teen pregnancies or kids growing up in single parent households.

I think you have serious reading comprehension issues. Your response to Gallstone's indicated abstinence worked 'every time' which implies you do not know what abstinence means.

It only takes a mistake, one time, with a single partner, and no amount of prior abstinence can help. Either one abstains, or one does not, there is no other way to define abstinence.

He's right, Danno and you know it. Abstinence Only programs for teens are what we are referring to - which says to teens, "just don't have sex." It doesn't say, don't have sex until you are responsible enough for it. If that is what you are in favor of, then we share common ground. Teach teens responsibility but telling them just don't have sex doesn't work as you are a living example of it.

And I thought I wasn't making any sense.

Denial of the denial facts. Catch 22. Abstinence do not work so does giving teen condoms doesn't work? Try to figure out what the really means.

I'll help. If abstinence don't work, then give them some way to protect them during sex.
