So I'm thinking of applying to a position here. But I haven't been since I was 14 or so and I'd like to know if its a good place to live.

Basically my hours have been shaky for a year so I've started the job hunt before anything bad happens. Despite living in SF I'm actually a midwesterner so the west coast - midwest transition is a non issue.

Thats where Im going to be living..next week..hopefully. My husband is working there in Bloomington.

St. Paul's USCIS office does have a very large free parking lot and only about five blocks away from the Mall of America that is trying to reclaim the worlds largest Mall status. My kid brother got is MD from the University of Minnesota so visited him quite frequently. But it's one big fat no parking zone. Also the land of lakes with seven around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area not to mention the good old Mississippi river where the water is still clean yet.

Was the last cities to complete the interstate system, matter of fact, they still are working on it. We use the St. Paul International Airport quite frequently. In general, the Twin Cities is a very clean town, low crime rate, and I kind of like the four seasons. Also a town/s with a high degree of culture. If I had to live in a large city, the Twins would be my choice, but rather live out in the sticks. Many Wisconsinites work in the Twin cities, about seven-nine miles from the Wisconsin border. Itasca State Park is beautiful park to visit where you can tiptoe across the Mississippi. Many lakes up there where the fishing is great. Cross country skiing is more popular as are snowmobiles and a nice place to bike in the summer. But one thing about Minnesota, the state bird is the mosquito. But an early frost kills those off, if you are looking enough to get an Indian summer. We did have one last fall, but was the first one in about seven years, something about global warming.

Temperature today is 43*F, for us, that is tee shirt weather. Southern half of Minnesota is practically all dairy farms, northern half is pine trees, I prefer the norther half.

you haven't been downtown Minneapolis in recent years have you? The thugs pretty much killed many of the places downtown... Unfortunately the twin cities get a lot of influx from Chicago as well as have a large Somali community that never met a crime they didn't like (mostly stays in their areas of town though). It's not as high as some areas, but the crime is prevelant within Minneapolis.. Not so much out in the suburbs (Burnsville, Apple Valley, etc..) but within city limits, ugh.

As far as the MOA goes, they have a LONG way to go if they ever have those dreams. It won't happen in this lifetime, that's for sure. There are malls 3 times the size of the MOA out there now...

Gee, I was in downtown Minneapolis last fall, no one bothered us, but was also in downtown Bogota and Caracas within the last year, no one bothered us there either. Must have bad breathe. To me, all malls are boring, don't sell car parts nor hop up equipment and certainly don't sale aircraft nor boats. Just all that made in China #######.

Is the downtown a poor place to live?

No, most of the high end condos and lofts are located in downtown or nearby. Or in and around uptown/Lake Calhoun area which is 1-2 miles south of downtown.

I commute into St. Paul from Wisconsin daily, don't know too much about living downtown, but there are some very nice Condos in the area around the Guthrie Theater, right by the river. Certainly wouldn't mind living there if my husband wasn't so addicted to living in the sticks.

Also, St. Paul has some nice riverside Condos to offer, built in the last year or so, along the river as well.

Generally people are very friendly here, seem to be very educated and open minded. I certainly like it. Winters aren't great, since we have no mountains to speak of for skiing, but there is still alot to do. The Minnesota Orchestra is very good, as is the cultural life in general. Some movie theaters show foreign language movies year-round. Summers are just gorgous, and the mosquitos certainly aren't that bad. It's been so dry the last couple of years.

Stay out of North Minneapolis, you do not want to be there after dark, other than that I don't find it too bad, and I'm out on my own in the evening quite a bit.

Now, if they would only fix the potholes, all would be well!

Oh, and some of the places around Lake Minnetonka are a real steal right now!

Ha, you and my wife should get together and cry in each others milk. Both of you are married to guys that like living in the sticks. But she kind of likes the space and privacy, we can even turn up our stereo above two without bothering anybody, maybe even 3, 4, 5, 6......

This warning is a little bit late but is still relevant. There is absolutely no need to make racial slurs - they add nothing to the discussion as well as being a violation of TOS for VJ.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
