Hi, this forum has been incredibly helpful for someone who's at the beginning of this process (hopefully filing I-130/I-485, etc. next Monday!). I'm hoping someone will know the answer to my question. It's a sort of messy situation with names, so I'm using example names. Please bear with me!

On my Taiwanese passport, I have two names listed. One is the pinyin name required by law (e.g. Yi-Ling Chang), and below it, it says "as known as" my English name (e.g. Jane Chang).

On my social security card, US credit cards, school documents, past EAD, etc., they all say Jane Chang.

On my marriage certificate (English version from Taiwan where we got married), it has both Yi-Ling Chang and Jane Chang. It does not have my intended married name (e.g. Jane Chang Lin). Basically nothing has my new intended married name yet!

I would like to go by Jane Lin (with Chang as middle name) in the future. What do I put on my AOS document? Thanks in advance!

I would put for "prior names" both the other names.

The for the names on the form I would put the name you WANT to be. If you don't do it and you want to change it later you need to submit a form I-90 and pay $300. Whatever name you want on the greencard is what you write on the form.

Thanks! I just sent them out using my desired name. Hopefully everything will go smoothly... fingers crossed!
