Hello everyone!

I have a few questions in relation to my AOS interview before March ends:

1. The interview letter writes:

Bring...

-Form I-693 in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted)

-a completed Form I-864 (unless already submitted)

My husband and I have already sent those in our AOS package. Do we have to bring the exact copies of what we have mailed initially or I need to go to the CS again for an updated transcription and sealed envelope?

2. My interview will be on March 29. Should we rush in filing taxes for 2009? Will that be an issue or the 1040s and W-2s from 2006 to 2008 will suffice?

3. Has anyone here passed the interview even with minimal evidence of marriage (especially in L.A. area)?

We only have our marriage certificate, dental and health insurance. I haven't met his parents but they sent one card only and mostly e-mails. Will it help to ask some people to write an affidavit (to be notarized) that they know we are married?

Answers will certainly be appreciated.

(unless already submitted) That's what that means. No need to do it again per their own language.

They didn't ask for them so no need for them.

Yes for the affidavits. Some photos will help also.

Answers will certainly be appreciated.

A senior VJ member rightly says "Read accurately, interpret literally, and follow instructions exactly." That cements the "unless already submitted" statement as something not to worry about.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You don't need to bring each and every item that you submitted with your AoS package. You'll see when you get there that they have each and every single piece of paper that you have submitted throughout the entire process. Focus mostly on your evidence of bona fide relationship, things like shared utility bills, paperwork where you were added as a beneficiary to a life insurance, or medical insurance as well as pictures and other documentation. For the taxes, they asked to see ours, but I wouldn't worry too much about this years returns. If you are a bit worried about it, take a copy of the W2, and a some paycheck stubs covering a 2 month period. I provided a letter from my employer stating my pay, beginning date and that I was still employed there.

With the L.A. office, the interview offices are very small, and very impersonal. The offices are in a long row down a hallway and each office has windows on both sides of the walls so there is no privacy. Our interviewer left the office a couple of times to go get some paper, or to copy some document or pictures. We did see him walk down the hall and then peek around an office door observing us. I'm fairly sure that this was part of the evaluation to see how we interacted.
