Hi Everyone,

Quick question, my fiancee is here on a K-1 visa from Poland and we are getting ready to get a marriage license and she was told by a friend that she had trouble with her passport. That because she changed her name to her husbands that she had problems with here Romanian passport.

She already has her SSN card but I want to put the best answer for her name on the license. the form has a place for Middle Name and Last Name

I was thinking just of putting her Maiden Last Name-My Last Name just in cast there are these problems. But perhaps it should be Maiden Last Name in the Middle Name box and My Last Name in the Last Name box.

I know it sounds confusing but want to get it right the first time.

I also realize that she really cant use her passport until she gets her green card or AP with a I-131 sent in with the AOS forms.

It's totally up to you both.

I think California is not strict about name change. I am in Santa Monica and about to have my AOS interview before this month ends. My new complete name is composed of my three first given names, middle name is my family name when I was still single, and my last name is my husband's family name.

If I remember it correctly, you have three choices for the name on the marriage license:

1. retain the bride's name

2. change it to her last name-groom's last name

3. just use the groom's last name and no hyphens

My passport remains unchanged. It still have my old name but there were no issues, no RFE's, or anything like that. Thanks God.

All the best for you both.

Have a blissful wedding and great married life together.
