Another consideration . . . are the stares rude or is it that you find the staring rude? It could be people are looking at your wife because she is a beautiful young lady - and people do look at beautiful young ladies. :). Perhaps not all of the stares are meant to be rude? Maybe trying to look at them that way might help you deal with them. Sometimes the best you can do is smile and walk on. That often disarms the rudeness - or at least makes it feel less rude.

My wife always smiles, and people who are frowning brighten in a smile back. My wife holds tight to my arm, telling everyone "We are together" in doing so, and that is all that matters to me, is that we ARE together... We got rude stares in the Philippines too, from filipinos. But I dont give a hoot about what anyone else may or may not think, just so long as I am with the love of my life, my wife.

We DID go into a fast food restaurant one time when a bunch of Mexican construction workers were eating there. they all stared, thinking she was Mexican, and we both were only amused by that. I just put my arm around her and held her close, having fun in making them stare all the more.

My wife also is very beautiful, and am sure she gets stared at because of that. She looks younger than her age too, and am sure there are stares because of that. I am just proud of her though, because of the beauty of her heart and soul.

Hi sage1. Its been a long time! :P

It's all part of the adjustment phase, once your neighbors will get used to seeing the both of you together.. they won't mind eventually :star: I haven't had that kind of experience in WA, most of the people here are friendly. It's your life and not theirs.. just enjoy the honeymoon stage and smile, when you worry, you will be depressed, if you will be depressed you lose one sperm ------ "giggles"

Our wedding will be in Vegas on March 20, 2009.

Give my regards to your wife.

I think people nowadays tend to stare in general. We are a generation who grew up on television shows that promote gawking and rubber-necking. We slow down to see an accident on the road. Staring is no longer considered rude or a taboo...and most people seem to be unaware they are doing it. I know I've caught myself doing just that.

We don't really mind people staring at us. When we're in the Philippines, my husband was the one who is usually the object of attention. He's the foreigner. There were even women who will hit on him right in front of me. I didn't really mind. Here in US, I think I get more attention than him because I'm the one foreign. LOL!!!

My husband and I are on the same age group. He's 10 inches taller than me but when I'm wearing my 2-inch flip-flops the height difference doesn't look so bad at all. We're also both chubby in Philippines' standard. We haven't heard any bad comments when we're together, usually good. When we're in Boracay we saw a white middle-aged couple approaching us so we decided to ask them to take a picture of us. They did. Before they left, the woman told us that they've been looking at us while we're walking towards them and she was just telling her husband what a lovely couple we are. Similar thing happened here while my husband and I were in the mall. A saleslady asked me where I am from and how I am related to my now hubby. I told her I'm from the Philippines and that the guy was that time my fiance. She was like "Oh you two look good together!". Maybe she just wanted us to buy or whatever. LOL!!!Strangely enough though, my husband's mom blurted the same thing the same day. I was surprised because I knew that she wanted her son to marry a white woman, not a brown one. But coming from her, we took it as a sign of approval!

I'm Native American but have been called anything from Asian to Egyptian to Philippine. My husband is Egyptian, but has also been called anything from Italian to Spanish to Greek. I don't think in this day and age we can stereotype people based on their looks. People are curious and will always be curious (including myself). You just have to be patient and understanding as to why they might be looking or "staring" at you.

When I was in Paris and in Egypt, I had my shares of stares and I probably stared at a couple of people too. It can be a complementary stare, a weird stare, a shocking stare, stare out of admiration..etc. The only thing you can control is your perception of why it is they are staring at you. Keep a positive attitude and focus on your spouse.

I think that interracial marriages are awesome because we went through the hurdles of paperwork, wait time, fees and electronic communication to test our love.

Peace to you all.

With Love

I've bee married to my beautiful Filipina wife for over a month now and I'm so happy that she got to the USA problem free. It was worth all the time, money and effort for her to get here.

But being in the midwest right now has its major downfall. I live in a town that is almost a third Hispanic/Mexican and there are no Filipinos here at all. When my wife and I are out in public we get so many rude stares that I can't believe, even from the Mexicans. My suspicion is that some people are just racist and too ignorant to realize she's not a Mexican in the first place. Anybody ever get that mix-up as well? I didn't realize the full extent of how narrow-minded dumb hicks are in rural communities in the midwest until I got married to a foreigner and started walking around with her in the grocery store.

I don't care what other people think, but after awhile it gets really discouraging and irritating. Her first impression of the USA was pretty much people acting in that way. I had to take her to a big city to show her how much nicer the people are in general. People think most small towns in the midwest are full of nice, heart-warming welcoming friendly folk and it's NOT TRUE! I've been all over the United States enough to know that. If you're an American man marrying a Filipina that's moving here...don't expect her to like small town midwest USA!

We want to not be treated like circus freaks walking around, or just a little respect. Doesn't everyone want that?

I know how you feel as long as your wife,as i experienced that annoying stare when were at south dakota to visiting my father n law..He is living in HURON which is not the big.So there is a time we went to the restaurant and when we look for a table, all people there at the restaurant stare at me like crazy and made me think if i did something wrong,or if i do look funny..hehehe but my father n law explain it to me as long as my hubby..most people there are white and few black and mexican. But when we went to mitchell another town of south dakota everything goes well no stares at all..

And where i'm at ..there are lots of filipinos.in ANCHORAGE,better ignore them!
