hello, my wife missed her oath ceremony and we received a letter stating this and that they were going to reschedule with a new date. this was over a month ago. We would like to know how long they usually take to reschedule another date? Also, she would like to petition for her parents to come visit her in the US, does she need to complete the ceremony in order to do this. this is al new to us so any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Petition to VISIT or petition to LIVE?

What country is your wife from? I ask because I'm wondering why her parents can't just get a visitors visa.. which your wife doesn't petition for, her parents apply for one.. some countries have more difficult requirements so that's why I'm asking.

To apply for her parents to get a greencard (i.e. live in the US permanently) yes she needs to get her naturalisation certificate which I believe you only get after you have done the oath ceremony because it's asked for when sending off the petition.

As long as your wife did not get naturalized, meaning take the oath, she is still considered a LPR. This means, she needs to wait until she takes the oath before she can petition her parents. The assumption is made that the petition is for the parents to come and live in the US and not for visiting only.

As for the oath letter, each area and office have different timelines, it will be hard to tell. Which office did your wife go to? Some others may be able to provide you with info if they have been to that office as well.

Good luck!

In the meantime I would get started on all the paperwork needed so that when you have the naturalisation certificate it's simple to just pop in the mail and have the process started :) Also gives you something to do while waiting for USCIS to send you that new appointment letter :)
